So I was one of the people that got my yearbook before they recalled them. I like my school, so I turned it back in. (they were also handing out $10 for people that did). So now I'm wondering if I did the right thing. Obviously someone tipped off the local newspaper and it kinda spread around the area.

I'm really disappointed in the yearbook teacher. She should have looked over it before they sent it to print. Now the whole school has to wait 2 weeks for our yearbooks.(school ends
    in 3 weeks)

    anyway, thoughts?

I honestly like the honesty box idea (no pun intended), I think it's an interesting one, but they have to expect that people are going to abuse it. It is high school, for God's sake. But this could have easily have been prevented by the teacher who was supposed to be advising the making of the yearbook.

Next year I'm sure they're going to be a little bit stricter about it, haha.

Well, if you think about it, a yearbook is supposed to cover all that the students have gone through in their time at the school. Is is silly to only look at the positive. I mean, NO-ONE has a perfect time at school. As the song goes "everybody hurts, everybody cries; sometimes" and to pretend otherwise is just stupid =/

I mean like, if someone who had a horrible time at school read through it and saw that everyone had an amazing time at school with no problems at all how do you think that would make them feel? It would make it fake and not real.

If anything, having this honesty box shows what REAL school life is like for most, if not all, pupils.

Yeah, but a yearbook is meant to remind you of all the times you had in high school. I'm not saying you should forget about the negative experiences you had in high school, but think about it: let's say you're going through your high school yearbook with your grandchildren and they see people talking about sex & drugs. How will that reflect upon you and your school?

Well, it's part of life? Why lie to your grandchildren and tell them that it's going to be all proms, medals and trophies when it is anything but?

So Patsy would you rather that the little children had their innocence shattered at a young age and lose faith in humanity within their first 10 years of living? Sure we shouldn’t shelter children from all of the cruelties of the world; however some things are inappropriate for a young child to know about. I would rather consult my children about the dark underbelly of humanity when their peers starting indulging in them then scare them at a young age.

Telling a 5 year old about Pot is just asking for trouble later on imo..

You could always not show them your yearbook? It's not that hard lol All I'm saying is, people lie too much about life as it is. High school is one of those things that is built up to be some fun wonderland when it is often the place where you experience the most bullying and pain in life.

...This is hilarious. God only knows what would happen if my school did this. I can't even begin to imagine.

I agree with both Misty and Patsy here.
I wouldn't lie to my kids, but if they were that young, I'm not going to show them that stuff.
"Oh look, LilBueno jr., that could have been your mom. We got so ****ed up at this party and then I did the swirly thing with my tongue on her"
    Or
"Oh me and this guy almost arrested when this happened"
    etc

I mean, if they were in high school, I might tell them, but not when they're that young.

Anyways, I agree with Patsy on the rest of it. High school isn't a magical time for everyone.

I would never tell my kids those stories. I wouldn't want them doing a small fraction of the things I did.

Yeah people do lie about life quite a lot.
In my country teachers and parents are realistic about how highschool is a difficult place to be and told year 7 and 8s this. I remember my year 8 teacher saying on one of our last days "You leave here, go to highschool, go get a degree or diploma and then it's all downhill from there. He admitted that highschool is tough. But we were told about that when we were ready to hear that, and accept that those 5 years are some of the toughest years.

I think people should know about things and be told the truth about them when they should be...

To be honest, I did. A lot of people do. Infact, most people do at some point. And if they aren't picked on, they get something happening to them. So why lie about it? It's what actually happened. No names are mentioned so what is the problem? =/
