    They're for people who review films, tv, and such. Basically it's a free copy of the media sent to the reviewer so they have a chance to, well, review it. Granted, these are not new releases, and the movies are rather "underground" but I think it helps it spread word of mouth.

    It could also mean going to see a movie in theaters earlier, or just getting to see a small film for free (like I did with Starbuck)

    I've also seen some digital screeners sent to me though e-mail (The Happy Poet, Room 237 which blew my mind) bit it's nice to have my own copy of things.
