I just found out about what was happening a few hours back. Senator Davis is a pretty upstandin' gal, lasting 11-hours. She would have made it past midnight, too, if it weren't for those pesky Republicans.

Either way, the bill was passed ( last I heard ), but there's still a lot of uproar about it, and I hope that it's repealed because c'mon. If a woman wants to have an abortion, she has her reasons. It's no one else's job to interfere.

For those of you that don't know, the bill is basically this:
The capital populace is in an uproar about it passing, which I agree with them. That's some crazy stuff the Texas Senate is passing.

Isn' t abortion already illegal beyond 20 weeks (which is when the foetus develops a brain and legally becomes a baby) unless there' s a problem jeopardizing the mother and/or the baby lives ? What, they' d rather sit back, grab the popcorn and risk watching the both of them die rather than bloody their hands and actually help ? Or bloody their souls I guess. Pro-life my ass. -_-
Can' t help wondering how many of them are for the death penalty.

First, thank you for using "pro-life" instead of "anti-abortion." They're two different things and I hate when idiots confuse them. For those of you who don't know the difference, "pro-life" is the opposition to all things that could be interpreted as killing, which includes abortion, the death penalty, forcing a mother to have a child if there is a significant chance that she will die in labor, and plug-pulling. Anti-abortion is strictly the opposition to abortion.

As for the rest of what I wanted to say, I'm only going to say this once and I'm not going to defend it to anyone.

I am anti-abortion and anti-maternal death. I believe that all non-fatal pregnancies should be carried out for their full nine months. Otherwise, it's a waste of perfectly good data* that could have easily been donated to a sperm bank instead.

That said, I also think that it's a pointless endeavor to fight for that belief because no matter what, nobody's mind is ever going to change about an issue like this. Why fight for my beliefs if nobody is going to listen?

*1 sperm=37.5 MB; 1 ejaculation≈200 million sperm=7150 TB, only 37.5 MB of which has a chance of developing into something useful.

As far as something like this goes, I am of the opinion that 'if you don't have lady parts, you don't get a say in what's done with them'. Anti-abortion laws are NOT going to stop abortion- they'll only force women to go back to doing it the old fashioned way, with coat hangers and over the counter drugs or whatever, which is REALLY FRIGGING DANGEROUS. If you're getting an abortion, no matter the circumstances, it's better to do it in a safe environment with a trusted doctor.

But it was the stuff that happened after the filibuster that really pissed me off. The senators essentially told Wendy Davis to f*ck off because she was, according to them, off topic. The people in the building were SCREAMING, the people outside were protesting, and the senate just frigging ignored them, and tried to pass the bill despite it being after midnight. Despite the fact that the whole thing was being LIVESTREAMED to the entire NATION. Hell, President Obama was watching. And despite the fact that they were right on top of the rules when it came to Wendy Davis, suddenly it's okay to bend the rules just for them to pass a bill, the misogynistic hypocritical f*ckwits.

Current rumors are that the senate board is afraid to leave the building due to the protesters. As they frigging should be.

I am SO F*CKING MAD RIGHT NOW.

You say this like we can't afford to have less children. The USA is one of the few developed countries where the replacement rate is higher than the death rate(not sure if this is the correct term) so there's no need to worry about that. Are you also anti-masturbation? Because I've been wasting a hell of a lot of data lately.

I offer someone to correct the potentially half-sided view of this Canadian because this all happened while I was away, but I believe Texas was very close to passing an anti-abortion bill, and it was beaten in the last second by a Democrat filibuster where the aforementioned Wendy Davis had to stand up for about eleven hours straight saying a speech, without being able to rest or sit down, just to defend abortion.

And get this, here are some rules for pulling off a filibuster in the Texas Senate:
Which is what makes Davis all the more admirable, to have pulled that off for as long as she did.

Well... that depends on your stance on abortion.

You can't just look to others for your own political and ethical beliefs.

Morality has no place in the law. I am morally against abortion, yet I believe it should be legal.

So, I read through this thread. If I understand correctly, please correct me if I am wrong, some woman stood up for 11 hours giving a speech about the pros of abortion. Is that correct?
