Axel killed Zexion because Marluxia ordered him to, and all members of castle oblivion were the traitors, planning to overthrow the organization, it was all Marluxia's plan

 

I read somewhere that it was because Zexion "knew too much" about something or that it was to move Saix up in the ranks.

Marluxia ordered Axel to kill Vexen and Zexion was the only one who survived and found out.

 

Actually, Zexion was on Axel's side, a.k.a. against Marluxia. Marluxia only ordered him to kill Vexen.

Axel said Zexion knew too much as Repliku drained Zexion of his life energy in Re:CoM. What Zexion knew was never told. Before Days, I had heard it was about Roxas.
Now I hear that in Days, Saix ordered him to do it so they could rise up higher in the ranks.
But I don't understand that because the numbers aren't their rank. Saix was VII and Xemnas' right hand man. Axel was VIII and the Organization's assassin. Zexion was VI but his throne was one of the lower ones, even if he still was loyal to the Organization. Saix and Axel

supposedly had plans to overthrow the Org when they first joined.

In KH2, it seemed pretty evident that they had long since abandoned those plans. Even in Days, it seemed evident.

 

This is just guessing, but maybe Saïx feared that Zexion's motives were similar to Xemnas', that he was using Kingdom Hearts to get power instead of trying to get his heart back.

Or maybe he feared that Zexion had, or potentially could figure out Saïx's and Axel's plans to take over the organization, reveal it to Xemnas, thus lowering both of their ranks/trustworthiness. Even if they weren't sticking to the plan by the time of Days, it could've been devastating for Xemnas to know that they had been plotting against him in the past.

 

I'm sure that Axel killed Zexion because Saix ordered him to. The reason for killing Zexion, I would assume is because Axel and Saix wanted to keep the things that happened at Castle Oblivion quiet or because I assume that killing Zexion would supposedly move Saix up in the ranks because he was one of the original members and I guess would have some influence in the Organization. Also I think that Saix didn't quit on his plan to overthrow the Organization, I think it would have been harder for him to carry it out without somebody backing him up.

Back before they were nobodies they always had a plan to take over the organization. it seemed that axel forgot he said it while he was still as Lea. remember, saix was best friends with Lea (back before they were nobodies). and but saix still remembered their purpose.
