I wanted to get my head around the basics of smudging and using different types of brushes. The tag below of showing my progress at the moment. I made it from using smudging and brushing techniques only so its not that great.
It's looking good Jay. The variety of colour and the lighting give it more depth, the direction of the smudging gives it some flow as well and you used a different colour for your text this time. xD You've improved quite a bit my friend. c:

Oh its very nice mon aime(french exam tommorow,sorry :p) I like the way it all flows,and the smudge clouds are very pretty. Nice work
how does smudging do that. I don't have a way to make these things, so I like to know how it happens if I ever get a way to make them
Don't know what program you're using, but try and mix up the strength of the brushing while you smudge. It would help create a distinction between foreground and background thus breaking up the monotony. Still, you have to start somewhere and this is a good start if I do say so myself :]
