I've been pondering that alot, and even though in some parts of the world prostitution is legal and its also a popular profession for those who can get licenses. (Yes, there are prostitution licenses). Do you think prostitution should be legalized in all parts of America? I think that it should, because if it's a person's choice to do what they want with their body whether harmful or non, if they really want to, I believe people have a right to.

No because it does nothing but cause more grief. STDs happen because of them! End of story!

No freaking way! If prostitution was legal, many more women would find it cool to sell themselves on the street to pay their bills. All in all, it's just plain wrong.

It's one of the oldest professions in the world. It's still legal around the rest of the world. Just not here.
Prosititution should be legal, because it could actually be a safe profission, health-wise, if there were tests for diseases such as AIDs, etc. for both the employee and customer in order to prevent any hazards to both parties. I think that it's religion trying to get into our pants again. Really, I'm not one that's going to have sex with some random chick, but I don't think there should be a stop to it either.

Well first of all I don't understand why it's illegal in the first place. Imean having sex is legal, and selling things is legal, so why can't you sell something that is legal?

But seriously... I think people should be allowed to do what they want. It's their choice. I mean there is nothing REALLY wrong with prostitution IMO...

i believe it had something to do with morals but i don't really understand that as well. i dont' know why it's illegal either. maybe prostitutes spread STDs (which is plausible) and that might be the rationale behind banning it.

Well, I honestly don't care. As long as I don't have to witness anything, I couldn't care less. As Darky said, why should selling something legal be illegal? You can pay a doctor to stick needles in you, but you can't pay someone to sleep with you? I suppose it has something to do with morals, like Evilman said, and it is also frowned upon in most religions. But aren't we supposed to be keeping the church and the state separate anyway...?

Did you even read my post? If testing is done for both the employee and customer, then transfering STDs can be avoided.

Well, if you look back at our nation's history, it's pretty much founded on religion. Puritans came here to avoid religious persecution, God is in the Pledge of Allegience (Congress added that in later, actually), and we have "In God We Trust" all over our currency. The U.S. is a very Christian nation, like it or not. And it doesn't help that the GOP is Pro-Life and Anti-Gay Marriage, etc.

well yea i know that would happen IF it were actually regulated. i was merely stating a possible reason why prositution is looked down upon by the lawmakers.

well, i think that the government has been pretty much the same for all of America's history, its been a bunch of overly religious men that have been through so many things that they have to keep the US in a stranglehold so that any difference from their "normality" is eradicated, i seriously thought this election was going to change all that, and it only slightly did. I really think we dodged a bullet with John McCain, if he was elected president, it would be safe to say that most of the nation would be outraged, and that the US economy would go into a full-fledged depression. But then again, there is absolutely no way that Obama can do anything substantial to help. he said it himself, he wont be able to fix the economy in just four years, so we are basically doomed.

P.S. wow, i turned a conversation about prostitution into a talk about american history and presidents...wow....i can really get distracted...

Thank you for selling short the dignity and intelligence of women everywhere. Just because it would be available doesn't mean people would consciously choose to lower their self-respect in such a way.

If anything, legalizing prostitution would help in 1) decreasing the spread of VD. The sex trade industry would have a formal set of rules, being a legitimate organization and all, and would thus be forced to adopt a few healthy standards to ensure the safety of both client and sex trade worker. Two, it would ensure the of the countless women who suffer abuse, not only on part of certain clients but pimps as well. Sex trade workers are among the high percentage of women that suffer physical, psychological, and substance abuse. Legalizing the trade would help most of these people as they would receive the proper benefits and care that any other worker would receive.

It's sad that people are all still hung up on this bullshit train about the sanctity of sex, and how it's meant for the creation of life. Newsflash people, sex is simply a biological behaviour that has endured for centuries simply because it's the most effective in passing on our genes. It feels good so that we're motivated to do it more-- the fact that we get kids out of it is a secondary function of the behaviour.

Cin has already made a thread about this but i'll reply anyway.Yes i think it should be legalized because it's a persons own body and the government shouldn't be able to stop them.People forced into prostitution shouldn't have to but if people want to do it then they should be allowed do it.

Plus I think we're missing the bigger picture here: paying for sexual favours is awesome.

i think that if you sell yourself to a guy just to get pleasure/spare change, then you've hit the lowest of the low. i'm srry, but that's just not the best way to die (STD's in mind) and neways, who really likes prostitution? (no joking)

Isn't it? It is over here.

I see nothing wrong with it. If some woman can stand on a corner saying "FREE SEX!" then why can't that same woman stand on the corner and yell "SEX! $20!"?

To object seems plain illogical. Or religious. Perhaps both.
