http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...rts-of-shots-fired-on-capitol-hill/?hpt=hp_t1 I am guessing this has to do with the shut-down. I don't blame them fully, but I still wouldn't do a shooting. I just got on CNN and found this. This is VERY new news.
Agreed, I highly doubt the timing is coincidental, and I'm angry at congress too. But this is a long way from resolving anything. In fact congress is now unable to do anything for several hours while this is dealt with. Although considering that the primary dilemma is now delays being made on the CR being brought to vote again, not on the vote itself. It probably isn't affecting that process much. But even if it was effective I obviously wouldn't be supportive either.
Oh yeah, anyone who doesn't know about the shut down: The U.S. can't agree on the budget for this year. Because of this, they have shut down most U.S. government jobs except the post office, a lot of marines on reserve in my state were shoved out the door for a while without pay today until further notice. The government has spent this time drinking booze and dragging this process out in hopes of getting a better election rate next year. And yes, there are tweets from congressman that confirms they are drinking while debating this. Hence my comments about the shooting happening because of the backlash from this. I honestly am glad again I stopped voting on either side of the party. I hope they wake up from this and finally make a decision before more incidents happen.
There was a woman shooting and she's confirmed dead. This entire issue is so upsetting and it's over something so stupid.
I'm reading mixed reports on it so far. The woman who rammed her car into the Capitol gates was definitely injured somehow (and some sites are reporting her dead, that she made some of the shots, etc.). At least one police officer was injured. The child in her car, thankfully, seems to be okay. It's unclear who fired the gunshots right now. Since it just happened I think a lot of the reports are conflicting... things will probably clear up in a few hours.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/03/politics/u-s-capitol-shooting-main/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 Alright, before I say anything else, I do want to say I support the police force and their heroic actions. But this was the worst call and a very ****** ending... The woman, who apparently was unarmed from sources, drove up Pennsylvania Avenue. Which is blockaded due to security reasons, cops approached the car with guns drawn and she did a 180, hitting another cruiser and floored it away. They opened fire on her, several times and the car stopped moving after a short period. Apparently the woman was just lost in town, which is easy in Washington. She didn't have a weapon, the guns fired was from the cops and she was gunned down and died a short time later. A kid who was a one year old was in the back of the car. I go to a beach where the Secret Service guard Barbara Bush who takes walks every night on there. They don't harass us and don't mind the gawkers though they keep an eagle eye on us. Hell, Laura hugged my mom and greeted her like an old friend at a bakery once because she did their wedding alterations. I have never seen them threaten, nor draw a gun. They never have done anything to anyone. I know this is the White House, but this was probably the biggest piss-poor decision made by not only the police, but the Secret Service. The child is scarred for life and his mother was gunned down in front of him because she took a wrong turn somewhere. I have gone to Washington DC by car before, the place is a ****ing maze if you don't have a map/GPS/or know the area very well. My parents and I nearly did the same thing in 2000 while on vacation because of how complicated it is. My thoughts and prayers go to the victims and their families. I really am torn between anger and crying. That's all I really have to say. *removes hat from head and bows head for moment of silence*
I agree that shooting the woman was an extreme move, but I don't think this is as simple as getting lost in an unfamiliar city. She struck an officer with her car and sped away (hit and run, essentially); when the police pursued her, she did not pull over and continued speeding, endangering other citizens. When the police officers approached her car, she sped away, hitting a cruiser, and engaged the police in another chase from there. Again, I'm not advocating shooting the woman. I'd still like to wait for more details, but if she had been genuinely lost within the city, I would think she'd have stopped the moment she struck the officer.
My mom and I saw it on the news. She floored when backing up, but if she was genuinely lost, why would she gun it instead of continuing to talk with the police officers? I'm really sad for the one-year-old boy, though, who had to watch his mother be gunned down and killed, if I read that right.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/04/us/man-on-fire-national-mall-washington/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Now a man supposedly set himself on fire at the National Mall at Washington DC. Reports are unconfirmed. If this keeps on going, I gotta change the title of this thread. And I wish I was joking. This is a travesty.[DOUBLEPOST=1380977691][/DOUBLEPOST]A note about the White House shooting. This is yes, where the President lives. But think for a moment, how many people are guarding the White House. Secret Service, probably a lot of highly trained police officers. They probably have a lot of the best equipment, including tire putter outters, tazers, and other such equipment. If you saw an unarmed woman in front of the White House with a one year old boy in the back seat, would the first reaction be surround the woman's car with guns and then shoot her down even if it was a hit and run of your own policeman?
