I saw this on Christmas Eve and quite enjoyed it, though I'm yet to see the first one. It's a different take on Sherlock Homes, but he's as wacky as ever. Though I must admit I am more of a fan of Dr. Watson, I'm glad he's not just a bumbling idiot and he seems to be the one thing actually connecting Sherlock with reality. It's quite entertaining, action packed and a challenge to see if you can figure it out before it's revealed.

However, I still prefer the recent BBC Sherlock TV series, which I'm looking forward to its return.

My mom is supposed to take me to go see it later today (she made me go see Mission Impossible on opening day instead) and I've been waiting for it since the release of the first trailer.

I'm hoping for an exciting film full of intelligent humor and clever plot. This should be far bigger than the first movie's core mystery and I'm hoping for just that. I'll tell you all how it was when I get back later.

I went to watch it a few weeks ago. I left the cinema over joyed by it's genius and intricate details. I thought it was very entertaining and had no problem deciding that it was better than the first. Although I didn't need to see so much of Stephen Fry, I thought he was a lovely asset to the film and thought his character was amusing.

I do hope they make another sequel as I think it could be done, I believe it won't be overkill just yet. But yes, I thought it was very funny and very clever- it's hard to fathom a mind so complex but still very entertaining. I recommend it to anyone.

I like that they included the character of Mr. Moriarty and the whole concept of Holmes seeing things played out before they happen.
It's like super Insight with that detective.

I like The mystery of the first, but enjoyed the action and comedy of the second.
The ending made me lol. Holmes is truly a master of disguise.

In accordance with the prophecy, I have it a 7.7/10.
The plot was really tough to find, and everything seemed more focused on the beautiful camerawork and filming of it. It also seemed very much an adventure, where really it isn't an action series which really bothered me. As I said, the camerawork was great. Some of the effects were awkward but overall gave a feel much like how the original stories related back to everything.
The cast was good, and I'm always a fan of Fry. Seeing him was a huge plus. RDJr. played well enough, and he is suited to play the Holmes that was being conveyed.
I just felt like it wasn't very Sherlock Holmes-y in how the characters and plot were conveyed.

While I did understand the plot, it was hard for several of my family members to follow. I especially liked the ending. For those who don't know, the final Sherlock Holmes story ended with a battle between Holmes and his nemesis and they both plummeted down a waterfall to their deaths. Years later the author decided to write an epilogue showing that Holmes had survived. While I have not actually read any of the Sherlock Holmes stories, I have been meaning to for quite some time. I really wonder if this movie was based on, at least to some extent, the final story. If it was, I fear that there will not be anymore Sherlock Holmes movies.

I'm going to see it tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it greatly. From the awesome (And maybe a bit biased) reviews I've seen it sounds like a real masterpiece. Though I never saw the first movie.

Well, you may be a bit lost unless you've read the stories. I'd recommend seeing it before you go, though you can always just read a summary if you'd like.

Do you know if this was a film adaptation of one of the stories or if it was its own separate thing? See my post a couple replies back and you'll understand why I ask. Thanks

I don't exactly know if it was based on a story, as I haven't read any of them. My guess is that if the film makes enough money, they'll probably make a third one.

My guess is they will most likely make a third one. I know the characters are all real, I haven't read many Sherlock Holmes stories (I read A study is Scarlet and a few short stories but that's about it) but upon reading them now I find it extremely easy to picture the actors playing their parts which shows their characters are quite accurately portrayed in my view. I do agree that there was a lot of slow motion and a huge focus on it's appearance and camera work but I believe it to be experiemental just as 3D was a few years ago. I think it looks very pretty and although this is probably more of an action film then a Sherlock Holmes film I still thoroughly enjoyed it. There was still quite a fair bit of deduction involved and it was cleverly done, I especially enjoyed how they show you his thought process and then something completely different cuts it short or something xD
