    Sharks always get a bad rap

    According to the International Shark Attack File (ISAF), a program run by marine biologists at the Florida Museum of Natural History, the number of unprovoked shark attacks has grown at a steady pace over the past century with each decade having more attacks than the previous.

    Ouch! My sincerest condolences go to the family in this time of sorrow.

    Also, if I recall correctly, sharks don't just attack. There's always a reason behind it. I wonder if the guy's foot or something was bleeding, which could have attracted the shark.

    Was it both of them or just one? Tough news if it was just one of them..or both :/ And on a honeymoon?? Just married...... maybe it just wasnt to be.

    It says in the original post that the bride watched in horror from the beach, I doubt that she'd swim out there afterwards when there's nothing you could possibly do ._.

    That's terrible, just after getting married to somoene and being all happy... the groom gets killed by a shark .-. My condolences to the wife especially.

    I dunno, I doubt the guy would jump into the water with an open leg wound like that.
    There was an attack on the same beach two weeks before, so it could possibly be that something is wrong with the shark/enviornment that would provoke it.

    Anyway, this is horrible; especially right after they just got married. ;___;
    My condolences to both families, and especially the wife.

    That's horrible. Sharks get bad rep, but then, we really have no common defense for them. Once they attack, it's just you. I'm sorry for that family.

    And actually, there's a few set offs for sharks to attack you in the Ocean. Things like boards' make them think you're a seal and such. I believe set offs for sharks was on the discovery channel. If you need me to check for sources on th web, just ask. I also think rate of attacks increases the closer you are to the beach. Again, remember it from the discovery channel, I'll try to get a valid source off the web to back it up.

    I would think rate of attacks would increase the closer you get to the beach....unless we've got landsharks running about.

    Sharks are usually provoked by a few things: Anything bobbing at the waters surface, sharks might confuse that with an injured fish. Surfboards are confused for seals and turtles by sharks, but by the time the shark realizes the board isn't eatable the damage can already be serious. Blood of course invites sharks to attack, so if you've got an open wound of any sort it be best to stay out of the water.

    More often then not it's an issue of confusion on the sharks part, it has to bite to know the difference between human and fish. Still this is a very sad occurrence, happening on the honeymoon just makes it all the more traumatizing for the wife. Condolences for her and the family.

    I honestly couldn't have said it better myself, Droid.

    And no worries about Land Sharks. Sand Ninja's generally run them off when they get too close to their territory(The beach).
