I heard this over the radio, they were talking about how teens are starting to send pornography pictures through their texts and one guy called up talking about how he had to take away his 13-year-old daughter's phone after finding pictures of herself on it, now that's just sad and pathetic.

According to analyst Lisa Bloom it's a serious federal crime and can get you put in jail.

In other words, about 20 percent of America's teens will be going to jail for this.
Really? I think this is just sad, and really pathetic, I mean, a thirteen-year-old doing this? And my mom says I'm too young to even be learning about it.
I think both sides are being ridiculous. One: the teen/child whoever is sending out the text is at risk of it getting in the wrong hands, and well, what else would a teen do if he/she got their hands on those pictures; show all their friends, correct? I think even just a small fine would just be good enough for this. Jail on the other hand seems a little over-the-top to me, unless it was an older adult that was taking these pictures of little kids or teenagers and sending them out, then I think jail would be the correct punishment. Then it's already illegal but either way I find this just sad and pathetic, now, thanks to this, those two years I waited for a new phone to finally be able to text, might not happen thanks to something as stupid as this.

    Your thoughts?

Man what will people think of next? It seems someone has to ruin it for everyone. One lame dead brainhead idea thinking it is freedom of expression is going over the line. Ever heard of decency anymore and sexual predators out there? The world is becoming a sicker deranged place and I hate to think of what is going to happen next. Technology is being used for the wrong reasons just for lust and pleasure and now phones priveleges are being abused just for the sheer moment of satisfaction. Parents need to be informed of all these issue and be aware of what goes on in their child's life.

It's technology. Of course someone will use it for the wrong reasons. Just as various technologies have been misused throughout history: Arson (fire), war (club/spear/knife), electrocution (electricity), hit-and-runs (cars), the atom bomb, etc etc.

Not that what these people are doing is right, but there really is no stopping it. All we have to do is understand that it is happening, and educate the population about the possibility and consequenses. Crime will always be with us.

it's unfortunate but since cell phones are very portable, its' very difficult to stop this becuase it's so easy to get away with.

I see nothing wrong with it. If people wanna send nude pictures through cell phones, that's on you. People should know full well if you can send a picture, so can the other person. This shouldn't be a crime. Thats something the parent should deal with. It's your damn body, you wanna take pictures and **** and forward em around then go ahead. No one should stop you.

Teen Sexting is a real problem and thats why young kids should not be allowed to have phones with a camera.... but sexting isnt such a bad thing for older couples and i mean like 18 and above so its legal. To each their own as long as its not breaking any laws is what i say.

O_o I'm glad that my cell phone can't take/receive pics...

If they would be over 18, I'd see nothing wrong with it. It would be their responsibility then, if the pictures went to wrong people. But if they're still children or teenagers, shouldn't it be considered as child-pornography?

I say confiscate their phones, that would probably be a worse punishment for them than fines.

Sure it's wrong, but I can't seem the harm in this if the person who gives is okay with it. It's just like underage sex. You ain't gonna stop it no matter how hard you try.

reason A why my little sister doesn't have a cell phone. I can't really condemn the people who do it, as long as they realize the consequences, but if someone was forced to it against their will, I would definetly find fault in it. Its no worse then a thirteen year old drinking, or smoking. There are worse things people could do.

i agree with you partly, but i just think that some people might not be old enough or mature enough to make good descisions, and that they might regret it later on. but if they are mature enough to make those descisions, then i say "who cares?"

Disregard for your self-respect is the sole discretion of the individual. Just remember that mistakes can be made. If someone wants to send pics or vids showing off their junk, they must understand that there are certain risks that are taken when doing so.

ya a two friends of mine are into sexting.
One guy sent a picture of his "baby maker" to some girl, his girlfriend found out broke up with him and got with one of my friend.I personally think the guy deserved to get dumped because he's the biggest scumbag in the school.

I don't see nothing bad with it
as long as yr old enough to accept responsibility
If you're old enough to drive, get a ticket, go to court, have a job (age 16) well thats yr stuff.
I mean i've had pictures sent to me like that quite a few times in teh past, i never thought nothing bad of it, usually the girl covers up her face or leaves her face out of the picture so if the guy decides to send it around its not identifiable.
The only problem to me is if you're young (when i first heard of this i was in seventh grade) or if you don't care who gets yr picture (you put yr face in it or send it around witout a care in the world, like yr braggin)

Well...that teenagers take pictures of themselves nude, to send 'em to their friends is just a reflect of the parents and the education they have because or their parents doesn't care about what they see on the tv/internet, or they doesn't care about their friends. Now, you can't break the friendship of the kids, but at least you can help them to choosing their friends.

    Agreed totally. B|

Its your body, you do whatever you like with it.

The only decision that people who are too young for this kind of thing can make is sending photos to the wrong people. If you're gonna send them, send them to those you trust, for crying out loud. Sending it to a guy/girl whos bound to show all her friends and spread it around is obviously a mistake :V

    Lol this is stupid.

I've been brought up incredibly well, and Ive been told many times, and Ive always hung around with respectable people that Ive never had problems with. And yet I would consider "sexting" (stupid name xD) because it would be my own personal choice, nothing to do with my parents ._.

Everyone here seems to think its a bad thing. Sure, its bad if you are reckless with it and send it to everyone or untrustworthy people, but if its, for example, your partner, whats wrong with it?

    I agree with Ms. Scarlet.

Getting sent to jail over it is stupid.

Blaming the parents and the schools for kids doing this is silly... and even though they definatly have an impact on how kids are raised they are not the only factor to this equation. Like i said before if your 18 or older then this is not a problem but when it comes to underage kids then its a serious problem. i think your all just assuming that this only happens from kid to kid and bf and gf. take into account too that this is being used as a means to send nudes to older people....

Doesnt matter what the age is of the person you're sending it to, you're still the person who clicked the button and sent it out of your own choice.

Why is it a serious problem if you're under 18? You forget the majority of people have had sex before they are 18, anyway ._.

    What the hell.

Okay. So we have MSN, AIM, ICQ and such which are all instant messengers. Then we have simple e-mail. Then we ALSO have chat rooms and imageboards, and of course, forums, ALL which more than easily allow us to send and exchange nude pictures. Yet sending pornography over an MMS from a handheld device is suddenly a big deal?

    What?

Okay seriously now. I'm not kidding when I say that it's much more likely for a kid to have internet access before recieving a mobile phone, and pornography is plastered all over the internet. Myspace, Bebo, Facebook, even doing a damn google image search could end up with being exposed to porn. So I really fail to see what all the commotion is when MORE teenagers are most likely use webcam to show their bits off.
    Just my two cents.

EDIT: I also agree with Scarlet. The age in which you are allowed to have sex freely is sixteen, and lets face it, unless you're majorly protected and secure, all under-sixteens will be exposed to pornography in some form. Why should it matter?

EDIT EDIT: You also know the ironic thing? There are companies advertised in magazines which specialize in this stuff! Yes, it is usually a scam, but nonetheless, few actually do send you pornography/explicit pictures to your phone, via text message.

    So again, what the hell.

Just a couple days ago (the day after i posted my last post in this thread actually) a girl sent me a pic of her low cut dress and then a full body view wearin that dress (nothin nude) then she sent me a pic of her bare chest (not the first one either) and i thot nothing bad of it, i mean it's the girls choice
and then yesterday my friend somehow got a pic of this not so pretty girl wit a not so pretty body and she had her shirt up and u can see her bare chest and he was passin it around to everybody, again it's that girls choice and in this case its blowin up in her face
