Well I don't really know if its exactly life related but I just don't know where else to put this. (I really suck at posting threads)
Well I'm writing my senior paper and I kinda need help everyone. Any chance you could tell me if an internet meme has ever changed your opinion of something?

    Chuck Norris!

Seriously, I think his whole meme has inspired a lot of things. There's a commerical where someone's running for governor. I forgot how it went, but it was something like "I've been asked how I'm going to secure the border of Mexico. I got two words for you: Chuck Norris" (guitar plays, Chuck is next to him). I've also seen him mentioned a lot in Christian articles. In church, we actually saw a video where Norris is explaining something (I forgot what it was). A big star, a man a faith, and an inspiration to all. You could write about that.

So would you say that the Chuck Norris being a meme has changed your opinion of him?

Kind of. I didn't even know who Chuck Norris was unitl Terra showed me the "Chuck Norris Facts" page back in my sophmore year. I got even higher respect for him when I knew about his faith, but that's kind of a slant.

Please don't tell me you're really doing your senior paper on internet memes? I really hope it's got some intellectual reasoning behind it because I've seen dozens of kids try to be funny doing their project on memes and end up bombing. Especially in the speech segment.

I'm not trying to be funny. I want to explain how these things affect our views. For example I never even heard of Kanye West till he became a meme.

*sigh* I didn't know about Kanye because I never like the genre of music he sings. I like knowing peoples views and thoughts on subjects because... I don't know. I've always found it intriguing to know what people think about certain subjects which is why I always appear as the stupid kid asking stupid questions. It's just interesting to me to see everyones reactions.

Yeah, but...memes? How would you even go about citing that in a paper? I don't think places like KnowYourMeme are exactly...reputable.
If you want to do something that influences a lot of people, why not people's reaction to the debate on if video games cause kids to be violent? You'd probably find a lot more "scholarly" articles and interviews on that, rather than something the internet made up. :/

I'm laughing at that for the history I've had with it. I did two projects on that before and they've both failed miserably. (I do believe that they cause violence in kids) I've already started this project and I have a lot of citations already from the internet. She is letting us use Wikipedia and normally that's not reputable.

Were all your sources from the internet on that too?

I think you could make an interesting case on the media's effect on people's opinions and viewpoints, and you could certainly use internet memes as one of a few examples, but I don't think it would be a great idea to use it as the sole subject of the paper.

No they were from books too.

I actually like that idea. The problem is that this project has already started and I have already chosen my subject. I think I will actually ask my teacher if I can change it to this but I don't know if she will let me. The thing is we have to have stuff turned in on certain days. Like we needed a file card with a topic and short description due on the 15th and 10 bibliography cards on the 18th. And they MUST be turned on the day specified or points will be deducted. Even being sick won't get you out of it.

Well, I have to go plan out my beg routine so my teach might let me change my topic. She's a mean lady who picks on the students for fun, has made me cry, and has inspired me to major in English in college. *sigh* Thank you all who have helped me. I never actually thought anyone would post on this thread. You've made the least known member of KH-vids happy. Nite.

EDIT: So I have my topic changed from how memes affect peoples opinions to how they are used to change peoples opinions. Ergo the Chuck Norris ad.
