Sword Art Online: The Beginning

Sword Art Online was the most anticipated VRMMORPG. That stands for Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game for you new to the community. This game was developed by the master and creator of the NerveGear, Kayaba Akihiko. The game did well and 10,000 Players had logged on. It was then we discovered the option to Log Out was not accessible. We were trapped in the virtual world of Sword Art Online.

Over time, people became accustomed to living in this world called Aincrad. Some lived lives according to the game, as others fought on to complete it and free the people. Many have lost their lives to the monsters that inhabit this world as well as the bosses of each floor. What was once 10,000 players has now dropped to 7,000. We pray that we can be freed here so we may return to our friends and families on the outside.

The date is April 24th, 2024. A mystery of players dying inside towns was just solved by the Solo player Kirito and one of the top players Asuna. Many believed that in the game, a hack was acquired to allow such murder in areas like these but thanks to the crime solvers, this idea was put to rest, until it continued, but this time players did die. No one knows who has found this ability to kill inside safe zones, but a war will soon break out if something is not done quick. A rumor suggest that a band of people known as the Council of Blood have appeared and are causing these murders...

Sword Art Online: The Council of Blood
A meeting was held by the members of the Council. The leader known as Alpha had discovered a code. A code to allow the ones in his tight allegiance to kill outside of the fields of safety. No one is SAO was safe anymore once the plans had been executed. As of now... Everyone would be living their lives like normal.

Mya hummed a soft tune as she was busy sewing some clothes in her shop on the 40th floor, Tailored Dreams. After being out for a while gathering materials, she had enough to make a good amount of clothing especially for the female gender and also for Star before she came back. After all, she did promise her a nice set of clothing to choose from. Life has been a roller coaster of ups and downs for her, especially the last few days in this game. She went through a lot and experienced many events that changed her perspective on her friends and enemies, one particularly being Star as she wasn't a normal girl, but a pop idol. That didn't change her opinion on her though. She still considered her a good friend of hers. Hopefully, Star also thought of her the same as well, if not better.
After a bit, she sat back and examined proudly at her work. Ahh all set! Hopefully, this should be enough of a selection for Star to choose from. Being max tailoring and stuff, it wasn't hard to make, but very tedious to gab materials and very unprofitable. She didn't have many customers. Many came by just to look at her beautiful clothes and then somewhat backed off after seeing the listed price. Only a handful amount of people actually buy from her. It gave her store a lonely atmosphere. Man...I wish I could get more people in here...but it's enough of a pain to get these hard-to-obtain materials. She really needed the money. Opening this place burned through all of her money and she couldn't risk lowering her prices except those who were close to her.

Fang was currently making his way through floor 40. Since his shop wasn't opened yet, he had time to spare, besides it was only on the next floor so it's not like it would take him long to get there. Still it was good to go out and check out the sites, even if he was doing it alone. As he continued to walk, he noticed a shop out of the corner of his eye. "Tailored Dreams. Why not." He simply shrugged his shoulders before walking in. The first thing he noticed was all the clothes around. They were slight to see. "Wow, sure is quite the selection they have here."

Star had been running around smiling at all the shops around the floor. It wasn't her being happy about shopping, but more as finding a man she loved. Masaru also known as the Singer's Knight had married her just recently. There honeymoon was meant for today and nothing but happiness emitted from her. Her friend Mya had set up a shop for tailoring and Star had requested some clothing for her and Masaru's trip.

She and he were heading back there now. "Where are we going to go Masaru-kun? I want to remember this day."

Alpha, the leader of the new terrorist guild had walked along the streets of the 40th floor. His sword was in hand. Confidence and darkness could be shown by just the slightest site of his eyes. He stood in front of the shop that a girl named Mya had recently opened. "Today will be the day that I spread fear into the other players of SAO. I am the Alpha; the beginning is me."

Another player had walked by talking with some friends of his. Slightly, he bumped into Alpha. "Hey, sorry man. I wasn't paying attention." He said in a light tone. A friendly guy he seemed. Caring and hard working.
"You will be the first example." Alpha slashed at the player as his health gauge quickly went down. He gave an evil laugh as his friends shrieked in terror. Alpha had killed someone in a safe zone, an area where PvP was off limits. The player fell and he burst into particles. No Winner screen appeared. The man had no teleport crystals with him. He was dead.

"I am Alpha, the leader of the Council of Blood. I and my members will reign down and kill players whenever, wherever. The war has begun." There was no guild mark on him. It would be impossible to tell who would be in a guild like his. "No guild exist in reality. We could be anyone. Your best friend perhaps is one of us. You won't know until you are dead." He continued to yell to the crowd of angry players.

Ping, ping, ping, ping. He continued hacking away at his new sword with his hammer. A catchy tune, really, with the cackling fire. Ping, fwoosh, ping, fwoosh. He smirked to himself as he hammered away.

There was a bar that filled with green hovering above the weapon. After a while, when the bar was completely filled, he put the sword in to the fire, took it out, and dipped it in to a bucket full of water. When he pulled it out, it was brand new.

"Alright!" After he pulled out a menu, then went in to his weapons menu, another sword appeared. It looked just like any old sword someone would think of, but this was one of Poke's oldest swords. He grabbed both, then put the handles together. They fit perfectly.

He stood up, and started spinning the swords. "Time for a test run..." With that , he left his shop, flipping the sign to closed, and went off to the fields.

Mya heard the door open and she perked up. Finally! I got a customer after so long! She gave him a friendly smile and a small bow. Welcome to Tailored Dreams sir. Please take a look around the large selection we have. If you have any questions, feel free to come up and ask. While he was looking around, she continued to work on more clothes.

Kali was standing nearby when a player who called himself Alpha had killed another player inside the safe zone. She slowly backed away from the group keeping an eye on Alpha. At this moment she wasn't sure what to think but she didn't want to stick to close to find out his next move. She planned to return to the dungeon and continue moving forward, but at this point being a solo player was hard and it took a while to get anywhere. So instead Kali wanted to get a closer look at the man, try to figure out what his trick was. Kali ducked into an ally and followed it to the other side of a set of buildings, walking behind them till she came across another ally. This one lead her a few feet behind where Alpha stood. Kali stayed in the shadows of the ally listening to his threats. It was times like these she was glad she was a solo player, no one could be trusted.

Louvel was leaning against a wall near by simple observing the scene and how people reacted to it. He blended in with the crowd pretty well at this point since he had yet to kill anyone so his marker was still green. Louvel wanted to get a good sense of these people before he did anything. After all he didn't really want to kill that much, it was just that it seemed to be the only way to ensure he lived to see the end of the game. All he wanted to do was to return to his sister. Since the beginning of the game his only goal was to return to the real world as fast as possible so he could protect his sister again. No matter what it took.

As Louvel stood there he eyed a girl run into the allies. Once she was far enough away he followed behind her curious to what she was up to. He saw her stop at the end of another ally which he did not follow her down. She didn't seem like a big enough threat to worry about at the moment. Even from where he stood at the exact opposite end of the ally he could see a slight tremble in her hand as she rested it upon the handle to her sword. Louvel continued to the next ally, exited back onto the main street and leaned against a near by wall running through everything he had just observed.

Masaru had to give a light chuckle at Star's attitude and reactions, but then again, it was natural to act that way since she was married to him. the honeymoon was also set in motion too, he planned to go to Coral Village on Floor 22, ti had a lake and a nice view to add to the scene, of course, they weren't going to live there, just rent a cabin for a few days to a week if possible, of course, the Col would be a impressive amoutn had it not been for grinding levels and Star's profit of making weapons, so that raked up the Col nicely.

"Wait and see, it is a surprise after all." He said to her and thought back on how long everyone been trapped in this Game for, 6th November 2022, Sword Art Online offically released 10,000 copies as the first batch, needless to say, those copies were all brought in record breaking moments, but on that same day, the Logout Button was removed from the system and Kayaba Akihiko, creator of the game announced this was a game of survival and it wasn't a joke, people died in this game, either by Monsters, Trap Rooms, PKers or just not seeing the point to live and commit suicide, it was either adapt and surivive or lose and die, the only way to escape this prison was simple, complete the Game and get to Floor 100.

If only that were easy, in order to progress to another floor, you had to beat the current floor's boss, and they would progressively get more difficult, it was April 24th of the year 2024, that meant the survivors were stuck in here for a total of eighteen months and twenty-two days.

Ari paced furiously in her chambers at The Army's headquarters—news had come in less than three minutes ago of a Player Killing in the middle of the town on Floor 40.

The town!

Towns were supposed to be safe zones. Outside of a duel, PKing in a town was impossible! There had been a scare about a month ago with PKing inside a town, but the incident was exposed as an elaborate ruse by a member of the Knights of the Blood Oath and a solo player. This incident, however, had literally just happened. In front of a crowd full of eyewitnesses.

Scrolling through her drop-down menu, Ari pulled out her viol and started anxiously plucking at the strings. Without any tune in mind, the result was a disorganized, tense, and fearful sound. According to the report she's read, the player in question—Alpha—had simply slashed through a passing player, with no forewarning. He mentioned something about his guild, the Council of Blood, that yet wasn't an actual guild. The player had no guild icon. The members of this guild could be anybody.

Somebody needed to go down and investigate. There were no newly-discovered game areas. There was no pressing need for recruits.

The tune on her viol slowed down, becoming more deliberate and ordered, but retaining the undercutting tension.

Ari took her rapier from its place on her table and fastened it to her belt, putting the viol back into her inventory. She replaced all of her armor and pulled a Teleport Crystal from a drawer. She hastily typed out and sent a message to her superiors, telling them of her intentions.

As a member of the Aincrad Liberation Force, it was her duty to investigate this. There would be no true liberation for the players until they were also liberated from fear.

~*~*~

Floor 40. The town was rife with shopkeepers selling their wares. And today, a quickly fleeing crowd as well.

If she rushed into the situation, Ari knew that she would likely wind up in deep trouble. So she hunkered down in a nearby clothing shop—Tailored Dreams, the sign in front said—avoiding the rush of people.

She turned to the shopkeeper and the single customer inside. "Excuse me," she said politely, but urgently. "My name is Anthea... Did either of you see the commotion outside?"

"Thanks." Fang said the to shop owner as he went back to looking around. There was certainly some amazing things up form display. Maybe he would actually buy something, but first he would still have to look around.

"Excuse me,"

He turned to see where the voice had come from and saw another person standing there. He was curious as to why she was here, something told him that it wasn't to look around like what he was doing.

"My name is Anthea... Did either of you see the commotion outside?"

Something happened, things seemed peaceful when he was walking here. "No, I didn't see anything." Fang replied. Though now he was curious to what had happened. "What happened?"

Mya frowned when a random person named Athena ran into her shop and asked her about the commotion outside. Commotion? No I didn't hear or notice anything of that sort...not that I really care at the moment. Why? Is there something going on outside?

Ari bit her lip. "I'm an officer in The Army," she began. "And we got reports only a few minutes ago of an...anomaly, of sorts in the gameplay, and..." Oh, this wasn't going how she wanted, but she didn't want to cause more fear. But as players in the game, they had a right to know...

"...I may as well tell you; word's going to get around anyway, and you deserve to know. There's a guild...sort of. They call themselves The Council of Blood. Apparently, they had some sort of...demonstration outside. Their leader, Alpha, he...he attacked a player here, inside the town. Completely on a whim, not in a duel. That player is dead.

"Alpha called The Council of Blood a guild, but there isn't a guild icon for them. He says their members could be anybody."

She pulled up her messaging menu and sent a message to each of them with a screenshot from the report, showing Alpha mid-strike, the player in front of him dissolving into polygons. "As you can see from the timestamp on the screenshot, this actually just happened. For a few more minutes, at least, I'd recommend staying inside until things are a little calmer. Panicking players can be dangerous, and we need to let the Council spread out a bit. We don't want a bloodbath."

Observing Alpha and his antics and surprisingly a well pulled off PK in the middle of a safe zone...the latter intrigued him so much that a smile curved his lips and red brown eyes glittered and danced as he watched players flee. "Heheh...I didn't really expect something favorable to happen in the middle of town..." Clapping for this self proclaimed leader of a guild with no icon, Masamune, notorious PKer himself of the Laughing Coffin guild, pushed away from the building he'd been leaning on. It had been a year since he started coming to floor 40....one would say he was stalking the shop keeper of Tailored Dreams....but that one wouldn't be him. He bore Laughing Coffin's icon proudly but since it was located just below his collarbone...it wasn't something he could just show everyone. But the looks on their faces was worth it. Stepping lightly, Masamune continued to clap until he was sure he had Alpha's attention, "That was some fancy hack you did there. So...Mr. Blood Council Guild....you wanna tell me how you did that? Just for kicks, y'know? I've got some people I'd like to kill...and your little trick would come in handy. Killing without entering a duel...this is new...this is...." he shot Alpha a devious smile, "Interesting." Sure...Masamune himself didn't like showy acts...but Alpha sure knew how to get people's attention. If what he wanted was attention for a war though....he'd have to go bigger.

Star grumbled a small bit. She hated secrets. The place where he and she would finally... It hit her. Would Masaru be that type of man? Expecting love in physical form in the game. They were married here, but its different from the real world. What would she do... That was not important though. She cared for him and she may have to do some things different and new.

Star grabbed his hand. "Lets hurry to Mya's okay?" Pulling him slightly, she rushed a tad more. Once she began, a large explosion occurred near Mya's shop. "Masaru! That was near Mya's. We need to..." She looked over at him in concern.

Chaos, fear, dispare: those were the emotions he had come to expect from the populous around him. The big surprise was coming however. The one that would scare all players once it spread around. However, an odd man was clapping at the kill. He stated that this was nothing to get his war started. He also seemed very interested in this new ability. Alpha new him however. "Masamune of the Laughing Coffin. Second in command only under PoH. Someone of your status would wish to know of this ability. I cannot tell you. You, unlike PoH are not of the council. and believe me, I have something planned to really get the press going." He smirked. "Inferna! Active the detonation sequence Epsilon."
A girl with read hair stood atop a building behind Masamune. She smirked and looked at her fox she had tamed. "Burn it all down, Kurama." The beast turned and looked towards the building launching a blast of fire all around. "So Masamune. Scared of our power. We can also destroy the coding of the buildings other materials in cities as well." The city began to burn and particles flied off of the tops of the buildings.
"If you wish to know more, Masamune, you will have to somehow locate us. If PoH is as fond of you as he says, you may as well be given permission to use such hacking. Until that time though... We shall meet again..." A blue light shined as he warped away with his crystal.
Inferna did the same after grabbing a hold of Kurama. "See you later cutey. Don't let that girl Mya's house burn down. Your love is too great for that." With that she warped away as well following Alpha to his destination.

Masaru chuckled at Star's frustation, it was cute to see it before she grabebd his wrist and pulled him along, obivously going to run to Mya's shop but he elt her drag him, keeping up with her before a ear-splitting explosion had occured and Star's corncern, Mya's store was nearby where it orignated and he nodded, putting more force behind his steps to break into a run where it came from.

"What on earth is going on?" he thought to himself.

Masamune touched a hand over his heart in a mocking gesture, "You know of me, I'm honored. It's a shame really...not sharing your little trick with me." He flicked his gaze towards Inferna. He really didn't like how she so blatantly called him cute. If she was going to call him some worthless affectionate term, he preferred "Handsome". "Scared? Why should I fear something as pointless as burning buildings?" It fascinated him. The ability to destroy what was classified in the system as an Immortal Object. As Alpha and Inferna warped away, he was left grinning to himself. "Gave me the run around, didn't you. But...you gave me some good information. PoH a member of the Blood Council. How stupid. Being apart of two different guilds. It's insulting really. But...I don't make enemies among my friends." Scratching the back of his head as he stared at the burning building, Masamune was left with the dilemma of what to do about Mya's shop. He didn't like the things the woman within those walls could make him believe or feel....but those same annoying emotions tied his hands when it came to allowing her death to happen or killing her himself. Tightening his grip on his sword he held loosely in one hand, his attention diverted to the sound of approaching footsteps. By now...he had no doubt Mya had probably gotten curious and...well...even a glance out her window would've shown him standing there... Whether she knew or not...he'd come every day when the sun started to set just to make sure she was safe in her shop. An irritating habit. Not wishing to be caught at the scene of Alpha's game just yet, Masamune drew his blade. Despite the minor details, once a part of the code had been hacked to become damaged as such as the burning houses...they were no longer immortal objects. That part of their code had changed. Which meant...he could freely damage them as he pleased. "I'd leave it to those kids...but who knows what kind of damage could be done to her before they get here. I'd rather make sure she's safe before taking off." It took Masamune a minute to demolish the first building between the flames and Mya's shop. With no place to go, the fire would remain burning the building's it had touched and end there, without reaching Mya's shop. Turning to the second building on the other side of her shop, he noted the lick of flame too close to hopping over than he liked. "Black Wolf Bane!" A series of 34 strikes made the building between the other edge of fire and Mya's shop into rubble which vanished in a flurry of particles, creating an empty lot. Using his unique skill was faster than regular skills...but the repercussion... Struggling against the activated slow ailment, Masamune slid his sword into it's sheath and started down the street...at a seriously slow run.

Kali listened closely to the conversation between Alpha and Masamune. All she really found out was it was indeed a hack and not some special power build into the system like duel wielding. She didn't know why such a power would have existed but anything was possible in this death game. When Inferna lit the buildings on fire Kali was forced to dart out from the ally that she stood in considering it was between two of the burning buildings. As she ran out she pulled out her sword. She was aware that she couldn't do much in a safe zone herself but it made her feel better to have it out. She started to walk towards the building Inferna was standing on but both her and Alpha used a teleport crystal to disappear. Kali decided to look for this group. She heard Alpha challenge to find them and if another player could do it so could she, even though she had a slight disadvantage in not knowing any of the members. Kali wanted to put a stop to them or at least try to. It would be hard as a solo player but she figured if she could level grind enough and find them she could take out the leader and hopefully the entire guild would fall apart. Kali turned around exiting the city. She figured a group as powerful as that would most likely be located on a higher floor, meaning Kali would have to work hard at passing the 40th floor where she had been stuck for a while. Her abilities as a solo player only got her so far.

Louvel smirked as he watched a member of the laughing coffins approach Alpha, but that wasn't who he was most concerned about. Being second in command of the Laughing Coffins made Masamune easy to find information on if needed. It was the solo player who was listening in that interested him. Louvel kept a close eye on her, watching her dart into the street then leave the city. Once she had left the city he warped to where Alpha and Inferna went. He had done what he went there to do. He observed and assessed the threats to their guild as well as the reactions of everyone, which for the most part was pretty standard and what he predicted.

Coda groggily looked around after the commotion that had started woke him up. He had been sleeping, sitting against the wall of a shop called Tailored Dreams. After a late night of exploring and level grinding, he had decided to rest there for just a couple of minutes. Those couple of minutes turned into several hours very quickly. He stood up and stretched, yawning as he did so. "Geez... What's all the commotion about?" After seeing a nearby building engulfed in flames, he calmly quipped, "Oh... that's really bad." After seeing that, he decided to head into the shop he was in front of to ask about what had just happened. As soon as he went into the shop, he was distracted by the number of wonderfully tailored clothes he saw. "Whoa..." After standing there, looking around in awe for a couple of minutes, he remembered why he went inside in the first place. "Oh yeah, does anyone know what just happened outside? I was asleep until a couple minutes ago, so I don't exactly know what's been going on. Was it serious?"

Mya frowned, listening to her. PKing in towns...that sounds bad...if Laughing Coffin is involved in this, it could get worse...She then felt the explosion go off dangerously close to her location. She ran to the front of the shop and then froze as she saw a familiar figure standing there. Masamune...it couldn't be...after all this time he finally shows up. But why? Also near him was Inferna and the man presumed to be Alpha according to Ari. She spectated Masamune destroying the buildings next to her shop. A regular person would label him a threat, but it seemed as if he protected her shop from the fire. Wh-what's going on? She then ran out after him as he started to walk away from the scene. Masamune! Masamune! Get back!

It was reflex...how could he not obey the call of the woman he'd been stalking and flitting around with for the duration of this dangerous game. I'm supposed to be running...I shouldn't let her control me like this... He chuckled at the thought. Her control him? It seemed more like he should've stopped poking his nose into her life from the day after the tournament. He'd butted in enough that now he wanted her to chase him. Stopping, suddenly, Masamune listened to her call his name. Even if he couldn't resist the urge to stop as she bid...he could resist the urge to turn and look at her. If he looked at her, he'd lose his nerve.... PoH had made it clear the last time about his thoughts on their relationship. Forcing Masamune to disappear from her life. "You should stay in the shop....it's dangerous out here. What with all the PKers walking around...taking advantage of the mess Alpha created. It would be a nuisance if you got hurt..." Why was he jabbering like this? A nuisance? He'd go insane if she so much as got a scratch.
