I can't believe how silly this appears to be, but it's true -- it's very true.

Wow. Just wow. Spectacular prank, I suppose, but wasting the SWAT's time like that...?
I'll say this; there are odd people in the world these days.

Harmless pranks are all good and well, but I find it really wrong when they involve public servants like the police, especially when there were crimes & real threats that those police officers could have been spending their time on. Just a really low thing to do, can't believe some people find this stuff funny.

The same thing will happen to you if you randomly say "I killed a guy in my house" on FaceBook out of boredom. I do think people these days like the police should double check to see if it is a prank or not. But if that were to happen the next time you say "Someone is in my house out to kill me" when it really is happening they wont be coming. To be honest they make the police smarter then they really are in movies then in real life, sure is a shame.

    D:<

Can you imagine someone calling a S.W.A.T. team to your house? And you thought they were just kidding?

I don't know about you, but I'd be scared out of my mind!

I'm sorry, DT, but this matter is not funny.

That prank could of cost lives if it got out of hand and the resources the police wasted on the prank could of been needed at a real crime!! I can't believe some people....

    Ahhhhhhhh!

You guys, you guys! That kid is my friend . . . I live in this town, Lewisville.

He told me the story and it was crazy, thought it a bit over the top when SWAT showed.

I actually pity the hacker...just because he's getting his ass kicked does not mean you have to call the S.W.A.T on someone, but if that's the way he feels, then he's just a failure who can't accept defeat, sure i get mad when i get killed (mainly by campers) but do you see me calling S.W.A.T on people?

I think you've missed the point of what I was saying.

As this suggests, I don't find it that funny either. Public Servants, of any kind, shouldn't have their time wasted like this. Had it been something less dramatic, it might have been, though to be honest I wouldn't see the point in doing something like that unless I could see the results personally, which the hacker presumably could not.
My main point is that yes, they were just kidding with it, but in an extreme way. That was why I said "there are some odd people in the world"; because it doesn't seem normal for somebody to see this as a harmless joke.

It was 4am when I posted that, so sorry for the confusion.

Seriously? That's pretty interesting. Though that really hits it home that it could have easily been anyone in that situation.

He wasn't involved in the match at all. As the article says, he just came into the lobby, threatened to hack him, and then apparently did.

True, but he could have left a lobby he was getting his arse kicked in then he took it out on him out of 10 other people, still though, we will never know till the police take him in for questioning

    Get me his number? :3
Oh goodness me,was he scared? As i mean,I know I would be...
However,I do find the whole idea of this happening very very funny.
As in I am laughing rather loudly. Bit creepy though that the guy could actually get his information etc,but still.

I can understand how innocent the intentions of the pranker may have been, but involving the S.W.A.T. team is just ridiculous. If things hadn't been so easy to clear up, it could've gotten very bad for the teen and his family.

Still, this is quite the odd little predicament. Hopefully, this sort of thing won't happen again.

Its also VERY expensive to make the SWAT team gear up and go out. False police reports themselves are illegal, whoever did this and got SWAT involved is so gonna be in trouble.

I would hardly call a false alarm to the police "innocent." The guy knew what he was doing.
This isn't really practical--the police have to respond to things quickly, as some situations require it, especially when the person has called 911. One would wish that they wouldn't have to at all, and that people would take public safety seriously. :l

I don't know what SWAT is, but it seems like a police team or something. So, someone called the police to a teenage's house accusing that he heard shooting and the gunman still was in this house? Pretty scary to think about how they felt when the SWAT arrived. The guy who did this has completely lost his sense, this is so idiot and ridicules. I mean... it's just a game. Why someone would do such a thing?

I'm not expert at this, but I think that the one who did this is someone who know and doesn't like the teen. Such a stupid and dangerous joke, needs to be punished.

I thought you might. Who was he? Tell me about it later.

This activity is known as "swatting". It is somewhat common for trolls to do this. They are very rarely caught for it, or else it would not be popular.

A similar occurrence that I used to hear about, and a far more innocent one, was to order a great deal of pizza to the target's house. It is the same concept, and the caller is very rarely caught at it.

    Oh, well.

SWAT stands for "Special Weapons and Tactics" They are called in for high risk situations that are more dangerous than an average police job. They pretty fearsome I've gotta say. Never seen them in action but I have seen them on standby when there are large crowds. Not people I would want to mess with.

The context is strange though. That is a long way to be taking a video game and the troll seemed to just jump to the end with no prior lead-up (no demands, no built up frustration, just "hi I'm going to hack you").
