Because of the economy people have been "Selling things"
to look inside houses. To see a couple of things:
    1.Cameras or alarms.
    2.Nice furniture or house.
3.If you are a rich or well off person ( looking at your clothes, jewelry and such.)

Would you ever pretend to sell a product, because you wanted to see a house to rob it:If you were in debt and about to lose everything?(Like most shoppers and consumers, with no jobs.)

I personally would sell my house and search for a low paying job, or a horrible job that would atleast get food on the table and eventually build up to a better position or find another job once the economic crisis was over.

You can't know what you would really do if you were starving. It's hard to even find low paying jobs these days. As you fall deeper and deeper into debt and end up on the street, you have no idea how desparate you would get. The will to live overpowers everything.

If it meant that I could live for another day or be able to feed my family, then yes, I would.

It depends on the person in question. If the guy whose house was in question was a wife-beater or something similar, then yes. Not in a heartbeat, but yes, under dire circumstances. Other than social deviants, no, I would not. I would probably find whatever work I could, go on welfare (if it is still around in this hypothetical depression) and wait it out. Depressions don't last that long usually. Besides, depressions affect the credit-mad (people who regularly max ut credit cards and can't pay them off) or stock-market players most, and I am neither. I have one credit card with a $1200 limit and I have never maxed it out.

I don't plan on ever being married or having kids, so that's not an issue for me.

I would rob banks if eveything was that bad. Robbing a house would be way to hard for me to do.

    Dood has a point.

It's pretty easy to say you wouldn't do such things when you have a great life, but when it all comes down to it, you have no idea what you'll really do to survive.

VI schemer has a very good point. You can't really know for sure what you'd do when it comes to survival.

Personally, I don't know. I'd probably do anything. Robbing a house seems perfectly fine if I was seriously that desperate and had no where to live except a van with a broken AC.

One thing is for sure: you'd adapt pretty damn quick to whatever environment you were thrown in if you had little money.

Even if I DID ever have to rob someone to stay alive, I would never consider it "perfectly fine". It would still be a crime, no matter what the circumstances. The situation only changes if the guy being robbed does something illegal - then it becomes vigilante justice and, while still illegal, is a bit more justifiable.

that's a good point, i wouldn't consider it fine even if i did end up doing that.

I agree with this as well. If I was broke, rather homeless and all that, especially if I had others to care for too, well, it would be a matter that would be hard pressed to say no to. Desperate times sometimes call for desperate measures. However, I'd still know what I was doing could harm someone else as well and it is still stealing and wrong. In a desperate situation like that it is more forgiving, but nonetheless, it's taking something from someone else and obviously not having permission.

Yeah, but what if you were homeless and had nobody to care for? At that point I would be in full theft mode and rob people on the streets at night an rob banks by day. Since most people have alarms in their houses and guard dogs with built in cameras, I wouldn't do it at all.

I'm really glad most people don't have your attitude and total lack of regard for consequenses. If they did, our society would be even more f*cked up than it is now.

Well, if you're homeless and you get sent to jail, you then have a place to stay, then you wont be homeless anymore.

You get food if you're in jail. You'd rather starve? Easy to say, but much harder to do.

I would rather die than spend any time in jail. Yes, you get food, but prisoners are brutal. You've heard the expression "Don't drop the soap"? It refers to getting raped in the showers. Not pleasant. There are regular beatings, especially for the new prisoners, the food, while available, is abysmal, unless you happen to be a celebrity (lol cable in the cells for them), which I doubt any of you are, truthfully. Not to mention that when you get out, good luck finding an employer that will hire an ex-con. Trust me, that question (have you ever been convicted of a felony) is on every single job application.

If I was that desperate to steal, I probably would not want to go after people direct and take their stuff. That would just amplify the crime in my mind. Stealing from a house with no one in it would be more my goal because I'd rather not hurt anyone who doesn't deserve it directly like mugging etc. If I really had to mug someone, being as I am, I'd choose people who mugged others. At least then I'd figure they got some karma.
