Got back into Okami for the thousandth time. I've done two full things for now, but there are a few others in the works. Just not photographed and colored yet, lol. Click for a larger view. IMO they both seem a bit... "flat." It doesn't really give off a sense of depth. I can't pinpoint *exactly* why, but one reason is that most of your lines are more straight than curved. EDIT: \/\/\/ I mean the figures, Okami and Oki, rather than the images as a whole. I also noticed you hid Oki's paws in the snow in the second picture. I'm not saying it's neccessarily the case here, but a lot of "new" artist tend to cover up hands/feet so they don't have to draw them. That's no good if you want to get better. Face your fears, if you keep trying and improving, at some point you will be able to draw it well.
Clearly there is depth to the image as the lighting creates a circular focal point in the first image and there seems to be an even smaller version of it in the second image. Besides, in the level of snow that appears to be in the picture there wouldn't be a great deal of depth from the snow and wind. The colouring is solid and the shapes of the wolves and silhouetted Imps are actually that of wolves and imps. It appears as if it was done in flash even though it wasn't with the smooth lines and stuff that I mentioned to you before. The feet going into the snow create an impression of the location better than if the feet where on top of the snow as most new artists tend to really do where they don't understand that the characters should be on the landscape and not the outline of the landscape. There are a lot of zig-zag shapes on Oki which I am unsure are actually meant to be his shape in contrast to the more smooth Ammy but considering I have never seen Oki I can't comment correctly. I assume he has a rougher appearance hence the straightness instead of the slight curvature on Ammy's fur and lines, combined with the whole males being square and females being circles and triangles. It's not like you're a "new artist" >>
