    What if reputation from members that had been permanently banned was removed, either manually or automatically, from users' control panels? This would, of course, apply to both positive and negative reputation.

    What do you guys think? Discuss.

    It is not possible to be done automatically, first of all (and, frankly, would be a bit of a pain to do manually). Secondly, if you feel a derep is objectionable you may bring it to the staff's attention for consideration, but the banned status of the member shouldn't really have a bearing upon that? If the derep was justified then the person being permanently banned doesn't really matter. It's similar to asking that a banned member's posts are all deleted--just because they're banned doesn't mean they're erased from history.

    Honestly, there's no point to it. They gave you rep while they were still around, and taking it away wouldn't really serve any purpose. Aside from that, some members might be mad because their rep would go down.

    If you can give a few reasons why it should be done, then you could make a legitimate case for it.

    I see your point regarding banned members' threads and posts being deleted, and I agree with it.

    That suggestion / discussion has been brought up before, and their threads and posts, unless inappropriate or breaking the rules, should remain, as they don't affect anything. However, reputation does affect users, because it increases or decreases users' reputation points.

    Which, in turn, does not affect users.

    Let me give you an example of why this is a bad idea. Let's say that you repped me for something I posted that you found funny, and then you got permabanned for whatever reason. Then, because you were banned, I lose whatever rep you gave me.
    There are two conclussions from this;
    1. Rep matters, and I'm being punished for something that I am in no way responsible for.
    2. Rep does not matter, and doing anything about the rep you gave/took away is pointless.

    The only time this would be necessary is with alt accounts made to rep/derep. But this would be the exception and not the norm, plus it is unlikely that they would enter decent rep power without being caught. There is certainly no reason to make it a global rule.
