Implemented Remove the 1000 Character Restriction Limit

Seriously, This thing has REALLY been bugging me...because sometimes I have a really important VM that I need to send somebody that's more than 1000 Characters long...

If this isn't any trouble I humbly request that this be removed good sirs and madames of The Staff. Thank You for your time.

I don't think that's necessary to remove...1000 characters is a lot, if your message is really that long and/or important you're probably better off sending it via PM. If people started posting really long messages on others' pages, it would just end up being huge walls of text that stretch down the page, which is very annoying if you're trying to get to the bottom of the page.
That's why there's the limit.

 

But it wasn't there before this site was upgraded...or was that the reason why it was added?

Can it at least be removed from the Social Groups? Sometimes I have long important messages that I post in my social groups...

But anyway, I think that this restriction should at the very least be removed from the social groups.

 

Honestly I don't see much of a problem with removing the limit; VMs are a lot more convenient than PMs, and the only real issue is that long VMs would stretch the page, which isn't that big of a deal imo.

 

I agree. I myself would definitely love for this limit to be removed. We had it once and then it was removed and it didn't do any harm if I recall correctly.

 

I agree. The 1000 character limit wasn't there before the upgrade, anyways. It was even removed before the site was hacked thing, I believe. (It didn't stop me from sending longer VMs before the hack.)

1000 characters isn't as much as it might sound. Besides, it's more convenient to send one long message then have to sent part 1, 2 to the person.

Sometimes, you don't even know how much you're going to write so you don't think to send a PM. And it sucks when you end up writing more than you thought and go to post and it stops you. It also sucks when you're only like 70 characters over the limit and have to go erasing bits until you're not. It's also not worth private messaging when your inbox gets filled up quick and it's not even that private a matter. VMs are wayyy more conveniet.

And unless the member who receives the VM whines about how someone wrote them a long VM that stretched the page, I don't see the problem.

 

I completely agree. This is 100% percent what I mean. I've found myself facing all of these above posted problems because of that limit and it's VERY annoying. This thing has seriously been pissing me off almost to the point to where I want to punch my computer screen...

 

Alright guys, limit is gone (assuming I did everything right ._.). Have fun. ;o

 

Just wanted to mention it was because of the rollback... the 1000 character limit is a default setting when you upgrade your vB. But as Misty mentioned it should be fixed now. There are still a couple things that still need to be fixed like search indexes but feel free to point out any thing we may have missed.
