Remember when Bush was criticized for staying in the kids' classroom after 9/11?

It makes it funny to me that Obama does this amidst a literally world-threatening crisis.

I hate that guy more and more every day.

I think it's good for leaders to do these type of things. Helps you remember that they are just like any of us when it comes to interests and hobbies.

^This. Did you know that he also snuck away from the Secret Service for a burger and fries?

All in all, good guy, not so good president. He'd be better as a governor or some other state office.

When things are good? Sure. Now? No. Not when stuff like this is happening. That is not what you sign up for when you become president.

Things haven't been good for years and it doesn't look like things will get better any time soon. Every leader needs a wee bit of time to unwind.

I'm talking about the Japan disaster. It could literally threaten the state of the world as we know it, and Obama is worried about Kansas City. This is way bigger than the economy.

What do you expect him to do? Aid has been sent, aye? To my understanding an nuclear team has also been sent. What else can he do?

He hasn't said a word about Japan but yet he's filling out his March Madness bracket on ESPN.
    All the golfing trips.
    All the trips to Hawaii.
Flying here and there for whatever reason.
All the parties. He had the Irish Prime Minister today for a St. Patrick's day party and luncheon at the White House.

I'm not denying him the right to leisure but it would be nice if he could make a statement without his teleprompter about at least one of the situations going on.

Everybody's human, including the president. I mean, the disaster in Japan, I don't keep up with politics but I'm guessing aid has/is being sent. But...it couldn't hurt to help out more.

    Kansas?

SOMETHING. The main thing I want him to do is check our nuclear plants to make sure something like this doesn't happen here. A huge earthquake is scheduled to hit California any day now and our reactors are not prepared for it.

He is our PRESIDENT. He is supposed to DO or at least SAY SOMETHING when things like this happen. What does he do? He has a bunch of fun and spends all of our money.

In his defense, the only power he's SUPPOSED to have is to sign or veto bills, select a cabinet to do various other jobs, and nominate Supreme Court Judges. Anything else SHOULD be delegated to either his cabinet or some letters in the alphabet soup that's been cooking since FDR's New Deal. Which one would deal with nuclear reactor debugging again?

    Your President has spoken. xD

There's nothing in the news to suggest the US aren't checking their nuclear facilities.

About friggin' time (Note that I posted this yesterday). I really don't like that he downplayed the whole thing though. He didn't say a damn thing about the high risk of the reactors leaking or even exploding- which are very real, by the way.

First of all, there IS something to suggest that- in my local news anyway (I live near a nuclear power plant) - that being tha the owners of the power plants are refusing to allow for inspection. Second, I don't want there to be "Nothing to suggest" that, I want to KNOW that the power plants are going to be checked and that my family and I are going to be safe.

Well I do think it's right of him to downplay the threat of it, if he has scientific info that it won't be reaching here then it's best to try to prevent people from freaking out.

As for the nuclear reactor by your house, I don't think there's much the government can do if the owners are refusing inspection, is there? Or maybe there is, I'm not really too sure.

Media's been getting way personal with the president since....at some point. I don't like it much either.

Congress takes part a great deal too. Though I think what Slaughtermatic's trying to suggest is that Obama hasn't really been fulfilling his implied powers and/or roles. *shrug* Being president's a hard job.
