Thought this would be nice for people to have for both casual and formal purposes, e.g. if someone takes a long break from the site and isn't sure who's who when they get back, or if (as is the case with my Mafia game) you need to keep track of name changes for a player list.

Nova, you're forgetting to prefix your suggestions. ;o

I agree with this, if it's possible to do. It'd likely take file edits to change the default XenForo behavior of the things it already sends alerts for.

I thought staff was supposed to change the prefix when they started work on it

We can choose Pending, but only staff has access to Approved and Rejected.

It'd definitely be a nice addition, it's already confusing enough that people change their names so often on this site, yet people insist on calling them by their original name

An add-on like this would not be easy and likewise would not be cheap. It would require a lot (I'm guestimating at least 1000+ lines of code and several weekends to get right) of work to make a feature like this. Forums aren't really built with a lot of name change features because typically, in a lot of forums, you're stuck with the name you got. The one exception to this rule that I can think of was vB's feature for storing old usernames in the database (something I personally think XenForo should have went with). It would require a listener to wait for the action (a username change from the ACP) to grab the old name then the new one for use in the alert. It would then have to create the alert (I'm guessing something like, "User changed their name to Member" or something) and send it out specifically to anyone following the user having their name changed.

It actually seems like more work now that I've typed all that down. I'd guestimate at least fifty USD to have someone create this add-on, if not more.

I personally would like to see this created an implemented on the site.

XenForo does keep a log, actually. Take a look on KH-Flare for an example.

Bumpity bump. Any idea if this is possible? Hopefully it's not as resource-intensive as my other pending suggestion...

I'm not sure it's a question of resources as much as requiring custom development. As far as I'm aware there are no existing mods for this function so we'd have to hire someone to develop it for us.

Ahh frick. Well it's not a pressing need, so I wouldn't go that far just for that reason.
