Implemented Rating individual posts/User moderation

The idea behind this is that a member would post something they think is worthy, and then if other members like it, they click to rate it.

It wouldn't be like the thread ratings though; where it's 'Excellent, Good, Average etc.' The post ratings will have a straightforward thumbs up or down.

If a post has no ratings, a single "thumbs down" will give the post a -1 rating. If the post reaches -10 (or whatever rating the admins choose), it is then "marked" for staffies to review and decide whether to hand out a punishment.

So it's kinda like a user moderation tool, to help staff get their jobs done quicker, and get a little break from patrolling the forum waiting for someone to post flamebait.

Mainly because I can see in my mind how horribly whored it would be. People would just keep marking each other down for the laugh of it.

Posts that are put into a "moderation queue" like that actually take a lot longer to process than if a member just PMs us when they see flamey posts or offensive posts.

I think it would be more hassle to mess around with a thumbs up/down rating system.

I can see why this could be a problem.
But maybe if this feature wasn't available in the Fun and Games section, it wouldn't be so abused.

Yeah, it's the one next to the rep button. I don't really see much of a need for this. It'll probably just be abused just like the ones on youtube.8|

 

If you like it, rep it. If you don't like it, derep it. If it needs to be attended to, report it.

Basically what Rosey said. You can already say a post was great, bad or if it is an inappropriate post, report it. With how some members act in rating others as it is, there doesn't need to be another method of abuse out there. I'm against this idea as the methods are there already and another just isn't needed.

 

I agree with the staff on this. I mean, as Rosey has stated, the rep and report system pretty much do that already.

 

It's not a bad idea to make it more advanced, but we already kinda do that already.

 

I can already see this failing, so next staff out; hit the lights :3
