Why is slut censored but words like penis and ass aren't?​

 

...Because saying penis isnt really insulting and could actually be used correctly?

So? "You're stupid" is an insult, but that's not censored. **** isn't even that bad of an insult, really.

And is anyone on this site really going to use ass to refer to a donkey?

I'm not saying I want penis and ass censored, I just want **** uncensored.​

 

It can be if you're like "Well, you sir, are a complete and total penis."

I agree with this thread though. And I honestly don't understand why words are even censored on the site, since the majority of members just bypass it. The rule about using harsh language is barely enforced. We should get rid of it altogether.

If people could chose which words get censored, that'd be cool. :3

 

You could hardly block the words "you're" and "stupid" though.

I don't think they'll uncensor words like ****. This is a children's site after all.

I dunno, I think our word censors are fine. **** isn't that bad of a word, but it isn't exactly kind either. Plus ass can be used to refer to someone's backside. I could say "oh my ass hurts" and that's not really bad. But ****, there's not really a -good- context to use it in, aside from joking which we all know can get out of hand.

 

They are cencored because there are also younger kids on the site.
I don't think it will make much of a difference whether it's cencored or not,because you can cheat the filters if you color a letter;although I don't think uncencoring would be horrible.

 

Because we are trusted not to abuse the words.

It's a nice idea but it would take up far too much server space to have seperate sensor lists for everyone and I'm prettysure the site isn't even capable of it.

I'm not sure if this site is caple of this either but it's more plausable. Having a profile option to sensor words, that of course defaults towards censoring? Although I've seen this option before, I've never seen it in a vBulletin engine. So I'm doubting that honestly.

Since it's a public forum directed at children, swearing should be kept to a minimum which would mean stricter rules, not relaxed ones. There are people who feel uneasy with swears, and that should be respected. If you want to curse it up in PMs be my guest.

And anyway, censors souldn't be a big deal. If someone honestly can't tell what you were saying with a word censored then you really need to expand your vocabulary.

 

Thing is, I've never really considered **** a swear word. Sure, it's not very nice, but there are worse things that you could say that aren't censored.​

 

The line between what is a swear and what isn’t is very vague. If you uncensored everything that someone didn't consider a swear then we wouldn't censor anything. But if we were to censor anything that people thought was a swear you would be amazed at what would end up on that list.

 

I believe the point is that 'penis' can be used as a cuss or not. It's also a body part. A sl etc, is a promiscuous person sleeping around. It doesn't mean anything else.

The s-l-u-t word, cannot be used in a nice way at all. The word is an insult no matter how it's used.

 

Idiot and ****** have no good meanings, but AFAIK they're uncensored.

Just out of interest, is ***** censored? If so, I demand it uncensored because a female dog is a *****.

Pretty much Amber's argument is that **** doesn't fall into her big bad list of four letter words.

 

Well 'idiot' and '******' (along with 'stupid' and 'moron') are scientific terms. Even if people rarely understand what they are saying, they still are.

as for 'b****', if you're talking about a pregnant dog then it should be very obvious in your context.

I just really don't get why you people care so much about the censor list. If you truely can't think of words to get your point across with those words blocked then I sugest you start reading. You'll come across many words that help portray your thoughts more accurately and you'll see examples of alternative ways to express yourself so you will be able to comunicate without improper words. Which will also help a lot in life since communication is the number one thing most jobs look for, and offending whomever you're trying to talk to is a serious roadblock to communication.
