Chain of Memories Question Regarding Chain of Memories / Re:Chain of Memories

I just realized something.

Deep Jungle never made an appearance in CoM / Re:CoM.

However, CoM / Re:CoM is based on memories of Sora's adventures, so whatever happened to Deep Jungle?

 

I believe it was removed due to copyright disputes.

Thanks for moving this. I knew there was a section, but I couldn't seem to find it.

Anyway, what copyright issues prevented Deep Jungle from re-appearing that didn't prevent the other worlds?

 

If I'm not mistaken Tarzan had a special mention in the opening disclaimers like The Nightmare Before Christmas. So it's possible those specific movie rights only applied to the first game, so it couldn't appear in any other.

That's of course only a theory of mine. I can't understand why it would really matter, seeing as Disney owns the rights to all the movies...(unless I'm mistaken on that point).

Whether or not it should be is of no consequence. It probably has to do with copyright issues like Misty said, meaning even if Square wanted to put Deep Jungle in COM they couldn't.

So to my knowledge it hasn't been revealed as to why Deep Jungle vanishes, but copyright is a safe assumption since the story and characters still belong to Rice Burroughs. Though I find it odd that he wouldn't want the world to reappear. It's advertizing and I'm sure there would be royalties involved.

But you are correct, in universe it should be there.

 

That just seems stupid, in my opinion, then.

I mean, it didn't really hurt anything by having Deep Jungle in Kingdom Hearts.

 

They got permission to use it in KH1 (with the boot up disclaimer). After that they weren't given permission. If Square made a game with Deep Jungle again there would be a law suit and then they would be forced to remove it from the game. So you would end up with Square having to pay fines and 99% of the games would still not have it included.

You can argue the logic of Rice Burroughs all you want, but Square and Disney had their hands tied.

 

Still seems dumb that they wouldn't allow them to use it in future games, but you're correct. Avoiding lawsuits had to be the most important thing, which is what they did.

 

Personally I'm kinda glad we didn't get Deep Jungle. I wasn't too much of a fan for that world. But they did add the Islands, Twilight Town, and Castle Oblivion to make up for it, so it's all good.
But yeah, I think SE was being smart because we wouldn't have KH as far as it is right now if they decided to try and get a law suit just because of one world
