After reading Xaldin's topic about him making himself a normal member, I was wondering, what would happen if a Administrator decided to make everyone a normal member?

What would happen to the forum with no one their to ban people, or delete, and close topics?

The forum itself has a password, which enables anyone who knows it to edit the forum as they see fit. Usually this is known only by the Founding Administrator, but can easily be told to other Admins whom the Founder trusts.

As such, even if someone is a regular member, knowing this forum password will give administrative powers to the one who accessed it. Essentially, this can mean a normal member can make themselves an Administrator.

I'm not sure how vBulletin works specifically on this, but something similar to that is the best explanation. I've seen this system used in earlier versions of Invision and Burning Boards. Things like IRC work the same way. Even if a channel operator somehow "de-opped" themselves, if they know the channel password, they can directly force commands such as "re-opping" themselves.
