    Two Help With Life threads in a single week? >_>;

Okay, so every PE period, my teacher makes us run a certain amount of laps within a certain time. Today she wanted us to do 2 1/2 laps in under 6 1/2 minutes. I did it in 6:20. However, I'm pretty sure I pushed myself too hard, because for the rest of PE, I was really tired, my whole body hurt, and it was hard to breathe. I didn't feel better until halfway through the next period. This isn't the first time this has happened. My mom and BF told me I need to stop pushing myself too hard, but I'm afraid that if I slow down, I'll be so much slower than the other girls (the boys run seperately) that the teacher will get mad at me. And if she doesn't think kids are trying hard enough, she lowers their grade.

I'm already concerned about my PE grade because I'm afraid she'll lower it because I always run away when basketballs and volleyballs come flying towards me. I know most people don't really care about their grades, but I'm trying to go for all A's.

Also, I don't usually notice I'm pushing myself too hard until a few minutes after I've ran.

Well from the sound of it, it does sound like you are pushing yourself too hard. But on the other hand it could be *this is just an assumption* that you are not used to running. I have notice that some of my friends when they run don't breath through their nose and out of the mouth. I know it sounds dumb but it helps you not become as tired. But what I find frustrating is that your teacher is going to punish you for giving your best but not keeping up with the pack. I don't know if this helps out at all...probably not but I hope it kinda does.

Is it possible that you may have a slight case of asma(sp)? I suffered something similar to this but didn't bother to check it out for a few years and it ended up being MVP. If this happens alot, specifically when you are doing sports or pe, to maybe see if you should get it checked out.

I don't know, it usually only happens when I run for a long time.

Then I would ask are you drinking plenty of fluids before hand, stretching properly, etc.? I still think that it could be a mild bit of asma but i'm not a doc.

I drank a little bit of water, and she made us all stretch first.

If you run more often, to me, it seems that it takes more time to run out of energy...

This would always happen to me when I had PE. But I'm done with it so I have nothing to worry about anymore.

You might have Asthma. I have it and that always was the cause. Asthma is genetic so maybe someone in your family had it. I have a bad case of Asthma but its still nothing compared to what others have. You might want to get yourself checked out. Go to the doctor, tell them this has been happening to you and you're wondering if its a possibility that you might have Asthma. Do you know if anybody in your family has or had Asthma?

Actually, it doesn't sound like you push yourself too hard in gym. It seems more like you don't keep your physical activities up and well, stop running away from volleyballs. xD Then you won't be so desperate to have to try really hard elsewhere.

You seem to be pushing yourself at moments in gym for a grade but you also seem to be slacking at other times so that you feel desperate enough to have to give your all at specific moments. I'd suggest for your health and so you aren't injured, that you actually try to participate in the gym classes and push yourself moderately so that you keep a constant state of muscularity and performance. Then you won't be so tired out when you push yourself, but at the same time, you won't be slacking off and getting the teacher to think you merit less than an A. Enjoy the gym classes as much as you can and don't feel you have to kill yourself to get an A. If you participate, do the activities and show some positive attitude, you'll get the A without harm and also get the most from the classes. Good luck!

If you really think you're pushing yourself too hard, I would suggest taking summer PE if your school offers it. It's basically PE all day, but doing various activities that couldn't be done in a normal gym period due to time restrictions. It's really more like summer camp. My school even goes canoeing, bowling, and ice skating sometimes.

    1. I'm pretty sure my school doesn't do that.

    2. I hate PE. Why would I want to ruin my summer with it?

    3. Next year, instead of just general a-little-bit-of-everything PE, I get to actually pick what I want to do.

Sounds like lactic acid build up in your muscles to me, try a more effective exercise or warm up before you run or you'll just be dead for like two days.

Again, because it's really more like summer camp. Plus, it's usually only for a week or two. Still, just ask, and you might think it's actually better than school year gym. And you also might find some sports that you really like. And usually it's run by several teachers instead of just one, so you'll have more variety.

Why would I want MORE PE?

I'm guessing that a week or two won't earn me any credits, so I'd still have to take PE at school.

I'm really not seeing the point here.

Not more PE, just more teachers. And that week or two would be all day, not just 40 minutes. Y'know, you could also consider transferring to my school in Ohio. They're strict on rules and homework, but if you take Latin, all your tests will be open book, even exams! Just sayin'.

I'm on a block schedule, so it's 100 minutes XD

And no, I'm not moving all the way to Ohio. I quite like the place I live in now.

Amber,if you feel your pushing yourself too hard then slow down.Chances are that you'll just be going at the same speed as everyone else because you were already doing so great. You need an escapism to help you, like music or a hobby or something outside the school.

How many times a week do you have PE?

If you have PE every day, I suggest you report your gym teacher. He/she should be fired. Running (jogging, trotting, etc.) is great for your body, but at specific intervals. Running -every- day, no matter the length, amount, or time, is terrible for you. Your muscles need at least a full day to rest before doing any sort of strenuous activity again. If you guys are doing this every day, it's only hurting your body.

If you have PE only one or two times a week, the simple answer is you are either out of shape (not in a bad way, you can still be very fit and out of shape) or you might possibly have asthma or another breathing impairment. If it's really bothering you, you should see a doctor to make sure. It's going to take a few weeks for you to get used to this running if it's not the problem above, but the stress your going through is somewhat normal. You might be pushing yourself too hard or perhaps you aren't running properly. It could all depend on what shoes you wear, how you run, where you place your feet. It's all very complicated, but if done wrong, it can put a tremendous amount of stress on your body that it shouldn't. I suggest you look into it.

I have it two or three times a week.

Next time we run, I'll try not to push myself so hard. If she complains about me slowing down, I'll tell her what happened the other times.
