Purple Carrots?!

Okay, i was randomly looking at the ingredients of one of those boxes of fruit snacks with the kh characters on them, and then i read this: purple carrot extract. what in thw world is a purple carrot? has anyone ever heard of or eaten one before?

It's just the few outer layers are purple, the rest is orange like a regular carrot.
