Project Destati is a group of musicians who have been paying tribute Yoko Shimomura’s brilliant compositions in the Kingdom Hearts games.

The truly capture the magic of Kingdom Hearts in their own versions. Apart of this team are Kristin Naigus, David Russell and Sebastian Wolff. Today they have released their new album called Light, containing 22 re-imagined tracks from Kingdom Hearts. This follows their first album Awakening, which released 358 days ago.

Light is available here on Loudr, or here on iTunes.

Guys I have the album and I can officially confirm that is is actually fan-friggin'-tastic.

Side note: Braxton Burks of Pokémon Reorchestrated fame arranged the track "Traverse Town," and Youtube's xclassicalcatx played the viola solos you hear throughout the album.

I don't like the sound or the way some of the tracks were orchestrated or arranged. I don't like it IMO

I'm gonna start listening to it in an hour or two. Glad to hear good stuff about it. And seeing this is just the first volume, I am curious what tracks will be covered next.

I'm always confused when covers/remixes of songs are sold by people who have no affiliation with the original artist/composer/record label/etc. No matter how much work you put into it, it's still not original. I don't believe any artist should ever make money off remixes/covers unless it comes with the added bonus of their own original work.

That being said, I'm listening to a few of the pieces here and I'm not too impressed. I'm not usually a fan of rearrangements because they often don't add much to the original song. They all fit within the same "genre" and feeling of the originals so they're not really adding anything new musically speaking. If this had been done in a different style like jazz, techno, metal, heavy metal, power metal, progressive metal, metal just makes everything better okay? ...Well, if it had been done with a different feeling other than trying to preserve that found the original songs, it'd be much more interesting. The tracks aren't badly done. In fact, they're very well done. They're just not interesting.

if it's being sold, they have legal permission from the song rights holders
if they don't they could be in some major legal trouble
also I think you might want to get your ears checked, because these songs are significantly revamped

Significantly? Not really. As I said before. The songs pretty much have the same feeling as the originals. "Revamped" doesn't really mean much. Especially considering that the originals weren't some old timy 8/16-bit songs.

Also, I still don't think people should make money off remixes. It just feels wrong. But if it's legal then well, there's nothing legally wrong about it.

did you know most all music is actually a remix
it's like voice acting, a bad impression is a new character

Of course I know that(I'm an amateur musician myself). Every musician is influenced by another. Though I don't see what any of this has to do with what I said. Covers and remixes are nice when they add something new or build on underdeveloped ideas of the original song. They're just usually not interesting when they keep to the same style, genre, instrumentation, and feeling of the original. That being said, I've seen plenty of "rock" remixes of KH songs(and hundreds of other songs) that just aren't good simply because they're pure transcriptions of the originals. I'm extremely opinionated when it comes to music. Maybe a little more than what's healthy.

It's not the same genre though. Feel maybe, but that's the point of a remix, if it doesn't keep the feel of the original you might as well be making an original song
