Poetry Contest: December 2007

I am now going to hold a POETRY CONTEST! XD XD The deadline is January 1st (which is in 20 days for those in a different timezone...) so good luck to everyone and do your best! XD

Zaria- First Snowfall *

The hectic shouts of my siblings echoes through the house
And stirs me from my feverish slumber.
With a groan and sigh,
My eyes snap open,
I sit up in bed,
And a yawn I cumber.

From my window streams bright, intense light.
I squint my eyes tiredly from the vivid sight.
Among the dull rays of the white sun
Flakes drift into view from behind the pane of glass,
Promising many days of animated fun.

With a whoop I stumble from my bed,
Slipping on the wooden floors as I sprint to the door.
I hear my mother call after me as I pass the kitchen,
But I ignore her reprimanding words of donning a coat,
And fling myself into the freezing night air,
Eager to see the new world I can explore.

With a deep sigh, I lay on the velvety ground,
Milky white diamonds blanketing me in a soft, wintry bed.
The cold seeps through my thin gown,
Chills my bare legs, the nape of my neck,
And cools my burning head.

My first winter was this,
Among the fields of gold turned white,
The soothing sound of the frosted creeks,
The exciting spectacle of the geese’s flight.

MARIExBRIARWOOD- Winter Nights

Its a lovely winters night
So beautiful, so cold
A pure and glistening sight
For any eyes to behold

Its natures gift? Its a curse
A mark of beauty? A kiss of death
Losing petals and blooms is always worse
When the only sign of life is your breath

A place where time stands still
The beginning meets the end
But snow melts, a lovely thrill
The cycle begins again

Clawtooth35- Wonderful and Woeful Winter

Wet and whip-like,
Woeful and wild.
Winter can strike,
Whenever is styled.

Water and rain,
In an intangable ratio,
And forever we strain,
For a christmas with snow.

Willful and free,
And longing to dance,
To uproot a tree,
And exibit its ignorance.

With ice and the fog,
And the cold winter wind,
Resist the drink, egg-nog,
And be ever kind.

For after the festiveness,
And all of the joy,
We all fell some hopelessness,
And we all become coy.

So lift up your head,
For Spring is soon here,
And you must go to bed,
For a happy new year

OrganizationXlll- Final Descent *

As he sat through the winter
so cold, so weary

He looked through the wasteland
so icy and white
he bent over and cried
through the darkening night

He tried to sit up
so lost, so tired
the snow blowed harshly
as he wished for a fire

As he took his last breath
and tears fell down to the floor
He fell over in pain
A new life gone forever more

Spiritoso- White *

Slowly and silently
White crystals beads fall down from the sky
Like crystal tears from the heavens.

Like a blanket, it covers the Earth.
Giving Mother Nature rest,
From the long and hard harvest.

There is beauty
Among the white stillness,
The purity it represents is all around.

It brings in new life,
As Nature finally wakes up from the slumber,
Beginning the turn of a new cycle.
Before the white covers the world again.

*The theme is Winter.
*Must be made by you!

Hmmm count me in XD

so just 2 stanzas, no theme? Can I suggest that a theme is given? because you can't really judge a poem about sunshine in comparison to one about death <_> sorry IMO

hmm... how about it has to do with Winter time? XD It could be about snow, how cold it is, Christmas, Hanuka (sp?), or some thing like that... ^^

This one can be like a trial run, if it works well and I see good results from it (as well as good judgement) I will help make this a regular thing. Like I said, it is something I have been thinking about for a while :P​

 

I really don't want to accept anything after the deadline... but you're willing to try anyhow ^^

okie dokie then! ^^ that'd be awesome if we could actually get this up and running as an official contest... XD XD hold one every two weeks... every time with a different theme ^^

 

Ok then so this particular contest is running until January the 1st? So this is Poetry contest for December 2007? XD

lol well there is a lot of time still so far for people to participate ^^

I like the idea of different themes xD like the way the graphics members have their sig of the week, and creativity might be getting story of the week back xD​

Ohh I would like to join! I wrote one last night about winter after seeing this thread ^^;;

Just wanted to see if I could come up with anything before the deadline, and I have. But I won't send it in until I know for sure I can't come up with anything better ^^

alright... neither of the other judges have been on... so it might be awhile before the poems get judged...:sweatdrop:

crap i'm in the same boat CTR is, too busy with Xmas wedding season at work and my trip I completely spaced this contest, but i'll be definitely in on the next one.

Uhm! <_> I can be a judge for the next contest! You know I'm usually on a lot, the only reason I hadn't been on much here lately was because of christmas and everything! I will warn you though my brother is looking for a new house so I may be moving sometime in february but it shouldn't be so soon as the week of the 1st.
