A friend of mine was saying how they were working on this already? But from what I see here they just recent started it. I saw this coming sooner or later but not this soon. I wonder how much this would actual cost.

Project Morpheus? So they chose him instead of Neo huh? I guess it would be a little standard to pick the main guy of the films.

Still, give this enough time and maybe some day we might even end up with a .hack game in real life....or SAO; either one works.

Here's some close-up videos of the prototype from Kotaku. So far it's confirmed that this won't be coming out this year.

Just because something happened in a work of fiction doesn't mean it'll ever happen in our lifetimes or ever.

IT WILL. IT IS NOT FICTION, BUT A PROPHESY!! IN FACT, ALL ANIME PREDICT FUTURE EVENTS. YOU CAN EXPECT TITANS IN ABOUT TEN YEARS OR SO.

But seriously, some evil deranged dude could get the idea from SAO or something. Or the helmet could electrocute you or give you a seizure or someone could hack into it and kill you or you could break it without realizing and it electrocute you or you could fall asleep with it on and it electrocute you.

Yay, we're one step closer to real virtual reality. Though, to me, this looks like Sony is shamelessly competing with the Oculus Rift. Now if it were neural and didn't require movement like in said SAO where I dion't need a controller to do other movements, I'd be pretty stoked, but otherwise, keep workin at it Sony.

I don't know .. for me all these "motion controlers" and VR stuff aren't true VR.. they are only stepping stone towards the true VR (controling in mind, not movements that make you feel in a new world) , they are necessary steps, and people should buy it to support it, but for me I just want the real deal or nothing! I Wouldn't trade the accuracy of the controller for the randomness of motion controlers (truth be told, move is the most acurate of those, but it is the most expensive as well).
Also it will probably be an expensive piece of hardwere, and we'll need a camera and move controllers.. so it is just too much money to spend for being a guinea pig.. just like previous generations of dancing games and those sports things that never make the real movement because of the conversion 3D->2D .

I love this idea! :D Since I've watched SAO I really wanted to experience such a thing by myself. I hope they'll improve the design though.
I wonder when the work on it will be finished

◀◀ ◀◀ I thought that Google's Oculus Rift was general life-integration technology, where as this seems more like it's for video games? Also, the design of this seems to be too bulky for constant moving and convenience, unlike the Rift. If they're for two different fields, it's not really competing.

I've seen more video games run on oculus rift than anything else. It may be marketing for a different (was anyway) product, but primarily is used by gamers for obvious reasons. That may all change now that Facebook just bought them.

As long as what you're promised as a backer (a thank you, a dev kit, a shirt, etc) then they've agreed to their part of the bargain. They only promise that stuff to get you to invest different levels of payments, to then fund their project. They're still an independent company, they're not obliged to please every backer.

    Anyway, tangent over.
Now Oculus Rift is FB affiliated, Sony might have the core gamers allegiance all of a sudden. Their competitiveness just went up.
