An Assassin’s Creed RP. You don’t need to have played the games to join!

For centuries now, Templars and Assassins have battled in a never-ending war. Both factions wish for peace but both seek different methods of obtaining this goal. The Templars use any means necessary to ensure peace. Over time they have employed various methods to keep order in the world. Religion was used to force others to fear punishment in an afterlife, land was bought in order to force people under their rule, companies were owned in order to control people through them. Freedom was a threat to their goal and thus they sought to limit it in every way possible.
The Assassins fight to ensure the survival of free will, as it allowed for the progression of new ideas and the growth of individuality. They believed all should be free to make their own choices, regardless of the consequences that came with it.
Within the last millennia, artifacts that were believed to have come from a deity were discovered to have come from a race that came before humans existed. Though little is known about this precursor race, simply referred to as “Those Who Came Before” or the “First Civilization”, both the Templars and Assassins have fought over artifacts created by this race ever since they were found to have unfathomable power. The Pieces of Eden, as they were called, would be used by the Templars to take free will from people in order to bring peace while the Assassins struggled to keep the artifacts away from their enemies.
The Pieces of Eden aren’t fully understood. Tracking them down has always been difficult. All that you must know is that finding them before the Templars is absolutely essential.
You are an Assassin, your parents were Assassins, and you have been brought up to stories of the battles between your kind and the Templar Order. Up to your teenage years you have been trained in things such as stealth, reconnaissance, and pick-pocketing. Older Assassins will be well versed in free-running and combat. No matter how old you are, you are all dedicated to the same goal. Especially now that the Templars have just found your home and destroyed it. A handful of Assassins escaped with their lives and you are one of the lucky. Some of the older Assassins lead you and the other survivors to a rundown warehouse. Inside was something they had been working on for several years now…
The year is 2012 and the Templars now go under the name of Abstergo, a powerful company with an enormous global reach. Abstergo has developed a very special device known as the Animus. Before you are told what an “Animus” is, one question must be asked.
    What is a memory?
It is the recollection of a past event, specific to the individual remembering the event. That is what you know a memory to be. But what if this was not entirely true? What if, your body contained more than just your own memories? As it turns out, memories are genetic. All the memories of your ancestors are stored in your genetic code. As for why this is important…
The war between Templars and Assassins has been going on since even before recorded history. Pieces of Eden have been lost and found over the centuries. How easy would it be to track them down if you knew where they had last been seen? The Animus allows one to easily access and relive memories of their ancestors. Abstergo has used this to varying degrees of success to track down Pieces of Eden either through volunteer efforts within the Templar Order or abduction of Assassins.
You didn’t survive just by chance. Your survival was a priority. As you prepare to enter stolen Animus machines for the first time, you find out just why you are important.
The year is 1582, the Chinese brotherhood of Assassins are in a desperate struggle to find a Piece of Eden before the Templars. For many years now, their numbers have been small and they cannot hope to continue the battle alone. The brotherhoods located in Europe sent aid to their Chinese counterparts, lead by the highest ranking Assassin in Spain. One of these Assassins, Chinese or European had taken a hold of a Piece of Eden within their lifespan. Though the individual is unknown, it must be one of your ancestors and the only way to find out where this artifact disappeared to is by the use of the Animus. Grieving for your lost family will not bring them back and it is only a matter of time before you are tracked down by the Templars. Answers exist in the past, but can you find them?
    Rules
    1. No Powerplaying/God Modding.
    2. This applies to those of you who are familiar with the Assassin’s Creed series. You(and your ancestors) are not allowed to possess Eagle Vision.
    3. You may not be related to any character from the games.
    4. I’m not allowing anymore Modern Assassin/Ancestor pairs. Once those are taken, you can have one but not the other.
    5. Don’t hesitate to ask me questions! Also, you don’t have to be good with history to join this RP. I’m terrible at it honestly.
    6. Don’t nitpick on historical details. I’m not great with them but I’ve been trying to do as much research as I can to lighten the load on everyone.
    7. Stay active!
    8. If you look down below, you’ll notice that I’m not allowing German assassins to be used. That’s because of Prussia. It’s too awkward for me to deal with so just stick with the countries listed.
    9. The Hidden Blade is a traditional stealthy weapon used by assassins. You may only have one of these. For those who have played the game, you know that the designs have changed over the series. You cannot use those advanced versions(no hidden gun, hookblade, etc).
    10. To add onto rule 9, your assassin must start with weapons that would exist in his/her continent. Chinese weapons(like the rope dart) will stay with Chinese assassins and Europeans weapons(stay with the Europeans. Bows, crossbows, throwing knives, swords, and practically anything you can think of exist in both Europe and China. Just make sure to use the right variation of those weapons for your assassin.
[Example: A rapier is not a Chinese sword.]
    11. Assassin Ancestors will gain more weapons as the RP progresses. Modern Assassins will be given weapons on a situational basis.
    12. I reserve the right to add or modify any rules as I see fit.

"So now that you all know what an animus is and why it's important for us..." He was frustrated and made little attempt to hide his impatience. Even though it had only been a week since their home had been destroyed as well as all the assassins they called "family", Griffin was hardly the one to give the survivors much chance to grieve. They had been on the road for the whole week to get to this warehouse. The group couldn't risk being caught at an airport so early after the attack.

"Recently, something came up." He pulled a tattered leather book out of his jacket, holding it up in front of the group. "On a trip to Spain, I came across this little relic. Every page is written in an encrypted language. The only thing they knew was that it belonged to a Mentor in Spain who lived in...well, they couldn't give an accurate date." Griffin flipped through the pages before shutting the journal. "I was called in because they traced back my lineage to--you guessed it--Spain. Turns out, my family had the means to decipher this journal. The cypher has been passed down for generations but for some reason the journal remained in Spain." Griffin was already getting tired of speaking. He preferred actions to words, but the others need to understand why they were protected above the rest of their family.

"I'm going to cut to the point. I've translated roughly half of the journal. Names of other assassins who traveled with my ancestor were in it. There was some journey to China to search for a Piece of Eden. I had Gavin over here-" He motioned towards Gavin. "-And others track down the descendants of those assassins. The Piece of Eden was found, I'm sure of it, but we don't know whose hands it ended up in. You all are descended from those assassins. Though it's likely my own ancestor was the one who kept the Piece of Eden as he was a Mentor...if he wasn't the one who hid it away, then me going in the animus alone would have been a waste in time. We can't risk that." It sounded harsh. The others were only around because Griffin couldn't be depended on to be their only hope. Still, they were here now and alive. The only thing that mattered was the mission.

He looked over to the animus machines that were tethered together. Hooking up several together wasn't originally Gavin's idea, but he did use the idea to make it work for them without any assistance. Griffin had to admit it was impressive. What Gavin lacked in traditional assassin skill he more than made up for in technological genius. "I've been in an animus before, with Gavin's help we were able to pinpoint the best point in time to jump into our first session. The day our ancestors arrive in China. ...Now, anything left to say?"

Claire chewed on her lip lightly as Griffin's words slowly became a blur as her mind set off onto something else. She stared quietly down at the ground as she thought back on the things that have happened. She almost couldn't explain everything to herself, then again, how could she? She was still a little confused as to why it happened, but she could not shake off the screams of her family out of her head. It happened all rather too quickly, and the last thing she was rather expecting was to hear that her ancestry had assassins. Of all things, assassins. Though the thought sounded "cool" at first, it became rather frightening now. She couldn't imagine someone in her family having to kill another, but by the looks of things, that is exactly what she would be experiencing. The contraption Griffin kept mentioning was just something she couldn't get a hold on. She mouthed the word as she crossed her arms around her chest, now beginning to repeat it over and over again in her head until the word stuck in her head.

A sigh escaped the girl's lips as she turned her attention towards Griffin. She stared at the boy as she tried figuring out who he was. He seemed to hold quite a bit of knowledge about the events that have unfolded in the past week to the point she isn't even sure as to where she is. Who is he? Where were they? How does he know all of these things? So many questions began running through her head and soon enough she felt a headache coming along. Groaning, she lowered her head as she shut her head, rubbing her temples with her thumb and index finger; to be honest, she actually just wanted to go home. To be home in her bed, with her family - well, her family is dead. Going home was clearly not an option. She had no other choice but to stick around. She could only hope she could eventually develop some form of trust towards Griffin and the others around her. However, at the same time she couldn't help but feel suspicious towards every single individual here.

Claire's lips pursed as she shifted where she stood, eyeing everyone in the room before setting her eyes on the Animus. There were several, but she couldn't put her finger on a...plural word. Animi? Animuses? Ani-something. Just something. Shrugging it off, Griffin's last words finally rang in Claire's ear as her little train of thought quickly vanished. She was finally going to sit on one of those things and hopefully figure out what on earth was really going on. Now the only thing she could think of is how far back she will be seeing her ancestry, which in a sense for her was rather exciting.

Each word Griffin said, Amy heard loud and clear, she listened carefully, taking note of everything of importance. The fact she was wearing earphones and not looking at him by no means meant she wasn't paying attention. Likewise the fact that she was crouching on the ceiling rafters gazing down at an Animus below didn't not affect her concentration either. Her body remained motionless the whole time.

These last few weeks had been hard, in such a short time she'd lost so so much. So many lives cut short before their time, so many she cared about taken from her. Still she survived. That's what she did, if nothing else, she was a survivor. Her hand curled into a ball, she could not mourn though, she could not show them weakness. She'd been thrown into this and now she had to see it through. Do them proud. She wasn't going to give up, not now, not ever. She had more to prove and she planned to work hard to do whatever it took to make this succeed.

Looking down at the Animus, it was certainly a curious thing, she'd never seen anything quite like it. It took a fair amount of trust to go in there, trap yourself where you'll be powerless to stop anything they did to you. She didn't know if she had that trust but if she wanted to get this done she had little choice. She wasn't backing out from fear anyhow, that would never happen. And the things they said it could do, was that even possible? She wondered what her ancestors were like but it looked like there was only one way to know for sure.

Without warning Amy suddenly launched herself from the rafters where she'd previously been, leaping through the air away from the Animus to land neatly in a space on the ground. As she looked up, she tilted her head slightly and smiled. "I really hope you know what you're doing." Her British accent was clear as can be, "But anyway, let's do this."

Damn these guys talked too much. Well... Sandro had always been told the same. He always talked too much. Never knew when he should shut up. Now... he was sitting with his back to a wall and his hood pulled back, half falling asleep at the droning on and on of Griffin. The Animus sounded like some freaky science fiction film gone wrong, and if Sandro hadn't had heard stories of such a thing before, he wouldn't have believed it now. Well... it WAS right in front of him. So he'd probably have believed it anyway after all. Especially since he kinda realized a simple fact. He pushed himself against the wall and stood effortlessly. He rolled his shoulders as he strolled forwards. "Well, it doesn't sound like we have much of a choice anyway right?" he commented as one of his shoulders clicked followed by the other and then finally his neck. "Let's just get the damn thing." he smirked, like it would be THAT easy.

"Woah. Slow down there pizza boy." Britishness suddenly cut through the room that wasn't from Amy. A young man sat behind a desk surrounded by more desk which probably had about 11 monitors each and even more complicated machinery. "What my Taco eating friend here neglected to tell you," he murmered whilst referring to Griffin and standing himself up. "Is the way this whole thing works. You know what an Animus is now sure, but do you know what makes it tick? How you are all going to proceed over the next few days over years and years of history?" he paused, seemingly waiting for an answer that he knew wouldn't come before he continued. "Well, other than me pushing all the buttons on this side, you guys are really gonna have to pull your weight. Do we have any actors here? No? Oh... only assassins? Well I guess there goes my plan of theater and musical night."
He walked over to an animus and patted it with a hand for emphasis. "You guys are by far NOT the first people to experience the Animus. I feel sorry for the poor sods that had to experience it back in development. So many glitches... so many... yeah. Let's leave it at glitches. Luckily for you guys, you get the nice new patched version. A safer version. Well... sorta. As safe as an Animus can be anyway." he commented nonchalantly like it wasn't important. His words were fast and to the point, even if it seemed they weren't exactly linked by coherent thought, they were. It's just that for Gavin, he had so much to say and so little time to say it, he had to be fast and move from topic to topic with haste. "People have thought about hooking up the Animus to another Animus before. All the possibilities it could give us are endless, but has anyone succeeded until now? Nope. They didn't have me working for them. Sorry if I don't seem too modest, but you have no idea what I had to go through to get this to work, so I'm taking credit where credit is due. Now listen up. As I said, you guys are NOT the first people to experience the Animus. However, you will be the first to experience what I call: 'THE ANIMI-LINK'." he announced it. "The ANIMI-LINK is revolutionary. The Animus itself is revolutionary of course, but this is something else... Using the cloud and my genius wit and cunning, I have linked several Animus's together so you can ALL delve into your pasts lives and we can uncover the truth in a good timely fashion." he pushed his glasses up the ridge of his nose out of habit and took a breath. "Now, you know the situation and why we need all of you. You may be asking though... why not just put us all in individual Animi and be done with it? Well are you guys the geniuses? Sorry, that's not how it works. The key with any Animus and memory surfing is synchronization. Sadly, we haven't been able to make just skipping to the memories we need stable enough. So we have to go through in sequence, building upon stability until we get to our goal. The more synchronized with your ancestors you guys are, the faster it will go. As you all know. We currently lack one crucial thing. Time. There is never enough time anymore. So we have to be quick."
He looked at each of the modern Assassins before continuing. "The more synchronized you are the faster this will go, but that doesn't apply to just your ancestors with the ANIMI-LINK. It will now also apply to each other. You each have your own individual synchronization rates, but now there will be a new thing I have dubbed simply as 'GROUP SYNCHRONIZATION'. In short, the more you work yourselves together and in tandem to how your ancestors do, the better. The more stable the memories will be which means the faster we can go. Of course... it does mean that while synchronizing on your own was difficult enough, that synchronizing as a group will add a new level of toughness to what you have to do. But hey. You're all well trained Assassins right? How hard can it be?"
He finally moved away from the animus and back to his seat, typing very quickly and still somehow talking without making a single mistake. "We aren't throwing you right in the deep end straight away. You'll have a quick... well, I guess it'd be called a tutorial session, before we get you guys hunting through those memories of yours. I'll boot up the ANIMI-LINK and do all the boring stuff such as monitor your stats and take readings and such while you guys get familiar with how things will work on the inside. The Animus is gonna be something you will be getting familiar with over the foreseeable future. Make sure you take advantage of this while you can. I'll be on this side at all times monitoring you all and making sure your brains don't turn to mush. So do me a favour and try not to fúck up too much, and I'll do you the favour of keeping you guys alive. Deal?"

All this was a lot to take in a short time, but unfortunately time wasn't something they had right now. It had been barely a week since the Templars attacked them and they couldn't afford to stay in one place. As he stood there staring at the animus before him, he had some question about it. While he certainly had no clue had to operate this thing, he decided to just leave it to Gavin. "Well, should we get started then." He said.

"There won't be any mistakes while I'm looking after them." Griffin assured Gavin, having shown no reaction to the "taco eating" comment. His ancestor was Spanish though, not Mexican. A more appropriate insult would have been...well, there weren't any. Spaniards were known for being badasses considering that their favorite sport includes fighting bulls and having a bulls stampede as to run away from without being gored or trampled. Still, these were all thoughts to be saved for another time.

"Just lay down and let Gavin do his thing." Griffin said as he motioned towards the group of Animi organized in a circular formation. He went to his own and laid there, waiting for the others to do the same. "And if you all feel like your head is about to explode, that's perfectly normal. It goes away after your first time." He added in.

Amy smiled as she heard a different British accent in the room, it was good to know she wasn't the only one. She listened carefully to everything Gavin said, aware that he was the one who probably had the important information that they had to know. She found Gavin amusing, his way of speaking was different and she liked that. The fact he wasn't afraid to insult Griffin was entertaining too. Although she wasn't a huge fan of the way he spoke down to them, like they were stupid. The fact that all of them could kill him instantly in a multitude of ways, did not mean they were simply hired muscle with no brains. Still she ignored that for the most part, walking towards an Animus.

"Head about to explode? Oh hurrah, I can't wait for that part. But understood regardless, we're not complete fools, we'll be fine." She paused before getting into the machine, "So we just get in here and we're left to Gavin's mercy? So perhaps not the bast plan to get on his bad side, just don't let that go to his head. Or is it already too late for that?" She shook her head as she started to get in, "Oh, do we know anything at all about our ancestors beforehand? Anything it might help to know so we're not too surprised." She asked as a quick thought before she completely got in.

Claire shifted her attention to Gavin as soon as he spoke. She wasn't quite sure how she could trust the boy, but with the turn of events as of late, she had no other choice but to do whatever was said. Getting into the Animus didn't sound very pleasant and she was rather hesitant to even go in. She eyed the machines once more as she listened to Gavin's word; once he had finished, she watched as the others laid onto the machines, while she on the other hand debated to join them or not. She certainly didn't want to feel as though her head was about to explode, but she couldn't help but feel curious. Sighing lowly, Claire pursed her lips once as she made her way towards an Animus. Now closer to it, she cocked her head to the side as she eyed it once more before finally laying herself onto the machine. She briefly looked at the others before shifting in her seat and waiting for everything to begin. Then again, everything practically began with her family's death. She was an assassin now and if she hadn't joined the others, she would probably be dead right now. Might as well continue until everything ends, right?

Xavier stayed back for a bit and watched some of the others head towards the animus. He still had some questions about it, but decided to keep them to himself before heading towards the machine. Once he'd gotten to it, he got himself in it and waited. During the wait he wonder who his ancestor would be. Would he be an cool an awesome assassin, or a not so cool assassins. Where he was from didn't matter to him as long as he was cool.
