There's an Ice Road Truckers marathon today on History because of the season finale tonight, and guess what? The word "ass" is now being bleeped out, and it wasn't before today's marathon.

    My God! **** them!

Words like the F word are censored, but during last week's new episode, the B word (female dog) was said without any bleeping. In all honesty, though, nothing should be bleeped. If you can't handle a little cussing, then you should just stay in your house forever and never go outside!

Isn't KHV just as guilty of this as well?

While I don't like any kind of censoring, KHV's is more reasonable and doesn't overdo it.

Also, damn isn't being bleeped on the show, and ass is no worse than it.

    Yeah, no problems there.

Also Amaury, you know about "NSFW"? There are standards like that for television because a kid could be watching that show for all they know. People have standards, and I believe you complained about cursing being an issue, oh I don't know, less than a month ago?
tl;dr ~ Contrary to unpopular belief, you're not always right about every single issue to ever come up ever.

I would only allow cussing if it helps convey emotions in an effective way.

Otherwise, excessive cussing on Television, to me, seems utterly pointless and annoying.

I don't remember ever complaining about curse words being in TV shows. I've had a problem with them censoring things ever since watching TeenNick's Obsess This, a show on TeenNick -- TEEN!

You've got to admit, though, that bleeping "ass" out is kind of silly. They allow "damn," which is equal to ass. Furthermore, like I said, the B word was said unbleeped in last week's new episode, but they now bleep "ass"?

Additionally, just like TeenNick, History is aimed more towards the older audience. Not only that, but I've seen channels that don't censor out anything. Movie channels like TNT come to mind.

Censoring can depend on the context. Damn can't really be used to degrade someone else (mostly just "I can't get this damn thing to work" etc.), whereas ass can ("Get off your ass and do this work"). So while we may see damn and ass as equal in severity, context is everything. Damn is actually usually censored when it's used as goddammit.

We live in such a politically correct age, if they have even a slightly objectionable word during prime time television, some parent is going to call up and complain.

Not to interject, but do you forget the original usage of the word damn?

"Damn you" used to mean "I wish you'd die and go to Hell where you'll forever be tortured through untameable fires and the world's evilest beings." I'd be pretty offended, back in the days that mattered.

Though I can agree with that, it's used in a very different way nowadays. Some people might consider it offensive, but now it's not nearly as bad as the word that basically means "a sexual act".

This basically, I can't think of anyone who uses damn you non-sarcastically.

    Besides the clergy, that is.

I'm not dissing you or anything I swear, but what was the censorship issue on TeenNick?

Do the words detract that much from the premise of the show? Is your viewing experience in any way compromised because you don't hear those words?

    In other words,

Look for my thread regarding swear words on TeenNick in Discussion.[DOUBLEPOST=1348448025][/DOUBLEPOST]
The problem, though, is that they're now bleeping any use of ass, whereas before today, they weren't.

For the time being, I'm going to guess it's a technical problem.

I wouldn't say they're getting dumber for this. Personally I think they're just losing their balls.

Why do you capitalise the first letter of every word?
