My brother and I have had countless conversations and debates on our generation. It seems our generation is gathered around themselves and what could be better for themselves rather than others.

    What do you think?

Yeah. Kind of true. If your implying that we think about ourselves more than others.

in some cases, thats true. but then there are FEW people that do care about others other than their own needs. Like this kid I heard, was looking for The Wii, but it was sold out everywhere. But then, he got it, but he decided to give it to some needy children. Which is unbelievable. I think more people feel sorry for other people, but do not help them. I have to say I'm kind of like that, but not always.

Yeah. People pitty others, but do nothing about it. Most people (not saying everyone) seem to do what they think is best for themselves rather than others. They surround themselves with good things, and what they like and make fun of someone else for having something different.

My brother thinks he's different because he thinks he's helping me. What he does is tell me what HE does and expects me to do the same. DOES NOT WORK.

So we get into arguments. If I could just say one thing and be able to follow what I said easily, I'd be someone that reaches out to others. And you know what? That's what I'll do for this upcoming year. :/

    Thats good =]

Hmm, but some people are actually bystanders, but they don't want to help because they don't want to be treated the same way.

And my brother just tells me his generation is the best =/

Huh. Well, some people are so stupid, that they've realized what this generation is mostly surrounded by and try to show everyone how they are included in the generation's actions by being so ******ed and stupid that you egotistically turn around and tell them to shut the **** up.

The generation is egotistical. That's another problem. :/

I've told a lot of people to stfu but not for the reasons you said. I say it because people try to demean someone.
And yes, our society is egotistical. Umm, there are a lot of phonies in the world. In my school, for instance. Some people follow others to be "cool" and its stupid.

Theres some people I hate, they hang out in a huge clique, thinking they are such amazing people. Its disgusting to see how they talk to some people

Oh man, don't even get me started on that. There is so much I have to say about the "Cool" subject. >.>

Yes, people get so rapped up in themselves and their egos that they don't really care about anyone else. If you ever notice me at school (this is just an example of something) I'm constantly talking to my friends about stuff. But when I meet someone new, I stop talking so much. It's not just because I'm shy, it's because I'm kinda evaluating them, to see if they are what most people are. I tell my friends about all kinds of things that we are even discussing now, just sow we can end up different than them!

Shew, that's a mouth full! xD

lol. yeah same. but some of the people I hang out with, I don't like that much, but i'm trying not to dump them, because that is such a hateful thing. But the reason I don't want to hang around with them is because first impressions decieve a lot of people.

Oh God, i'm so annoying in the halls, I always talk about things like that in class. Like politics and our generation. My teacher in gr. 8 told us all that we must be good people, and all these things that we are talking about right now.

Yeah. I know, there are a bunch of cool people I know that just seem to hang around the wrong people....

That is basically the sum of it all. I still like going into details, though. :/

You're all saying that the generation of today sucks but have you experienced any other generation? No.

i really don't know. on one hand, when i look at the people in my generation (i think my generation is different from yours btw, i was born in the 80s) i really dont' know. some of them seem so obnoxious but then there are those good ones that try so hard to improve things. so i really don't know. but i think my generation is still too young to determine if they suck or not. i mean, according to other adults, they thot negatively about their generation when they were young too, so maybe this is something all generations go through?

I agree that our generation is 'softer' than other generations, but that doesn't mean we are terrible. We are the product of the endeavours of our ancestors. They fought to make the world a better and safer place. now we don't have to worry about when our next meal will be or how we will pay for things. We have some of the best standards of living and so we take it for granted. We have grown up with this, so of course we are used to it. Our parents and grandparents trying to compare their lives to ours and saying that we are lazy and stupid and ignorant really doesn't work. It's not our fault if they made us this way.

Like when my Dad told me that the O levels he sat (the equivalent to the GCSEs I sat) were much harder than what I'm doing I felt very insulted. He was basically rubbishing everything I was doing because of something his generation did. A lot of the problems we face as a generation came from those before, mainly our parents. Like chavs and the other scum that give our generation such a bad name. It is their parents from the last generation that produced them.

Hmm.. so I'm from a selfish generation? I've been babysitting for my brother the past two years so he can work and won't lose custody of his children to his ex wife. I don't call that selfish. I'm a 90s kid (Born in 1988).

I think the reason we may SEEM selfish is because we grew up differently than others. These days our parents can easily get food stamps, welfare checks, disability, social security checks, so its easier now to make do and have a little extra money on the side than what it was in past generations. So even the poorest of families can spoil themselves just an incy wincy bit.

Also, there is so much more violence in communities than ever before. Little kids can't even go for a walk around the block without the risk of being snatched up by some pedophile. So, because we were raised to be wary of danger and keep our nose out of other people's business we're selfish? I know I was allowed to run rampant through the neighborhood, but I would never EVER allow my own children to go out on their own, not until they were 13.

When I was 11 a group of 3 girls from a high school followed me home picking on me and threatening to hit/beat me. When I reached home I turned around, called them a bunch of b*****s, and hid in my house. They were knocking on the door for about 10 or 15 minutes before leaving. Why would a bunch of 16-18 year olds want to beat up on a little 11 year old kid? WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE THESE DAYS?

I don't think that the nice people are very few or don't exist, I think that they are in hiding and afraid of the big bad world. I know I am.

So with all this new technology and guns and violence and corrupt cops or cops that don't even show up 'til 20 minutes later when you're either hurt or dead, its no wonder there are few people in the world that could care less about a stranger. I constantly try to be nice and help people, but people these days are so rude.

I had my two nephews, 3 and 7, and my niece who is 6 walking with me in a crowded mall and my littlest nephew was trying to run off on me. I lunged forward to grab him and my purse, not any part of my body, hit this prissy little teenager holding a drink. I didn't maker her spill her drink or anything and immediately I turned around and told her "I'm so sorry." And she gave me this disgusted look and said "S**t." Whereas at first I was concerned and sincerely wanted to make sure she was alright, after that I wanted to rip her face off and make her eat it. If somebody apologizes, which is very rare now, you don't treat them like that. It was an accident, and I was honestly sorry for hitting her, but it wasn't so bad or the end of the world.

I'm just saying can you blame us for being "selfish" when other people from other generations treat us this way? Can you blame us for being "selfish" when people from every and any generation could be running around with guns and violent, malicious thoughts running through their heads? Can you blame us for being "selfish" now that the government has programs for its people, and not as many people live in poverty with barely enough food to feed its family anymore?

All I'm saying is yeah, we may be selfish. We may not care as much about other people as we should, but did you ever try to sit down and figure out the reasons why?

that's still no excuse for being selfish in my opinion. i think our generation has a duty: the duty to let the hate end with us

Then answer me this: How can we let the hate end with us when older generations and younger are working against us? How can hate end with us when there will always be a balance and struggle between good and evil? How can the hate end with us when it has been here long before we were born, and will be long after we are dead?

Not all is lost, we can strive to make the future better, but the hate won't end in our lifetime.

oh i also think we have another duty, this is gonna be SLIGHTLY immature so bear with me: i think we should eradicate AIDS from the human race. there's an easy way too, if you know you have AIDS, use protection! if everyone who had it used that, eventually the diease will go away. i know i would sure love to love in an era where no one had to worry about contracting STDs and be able to have "you know" with anyone. sorry, that was immature, but REALISTIC. i know we wont' be able to have it for ourselves, but we can certainly give that gift to our grand children!

first of all i dont' know what you mean by "older generations and younger working against us". but i think that if even one person chooses to rid themselves of hate, the world is still much better becuz of it.

Hmmm ok I am going to sound so harsh here :/

This..is the biggest pile of crap ever :/ our geneation is not selfish at all, think about it, it is our generation that is at war, it is our generation that are helping to look after the older generations (especially when America is going to be hit with a massive problem due to WW2 baby boomers reaching their pensions soon). It is our generation that is having to deal with the mess that the world has been given to us by our elders and it is our generation that is having to deal with the troublemakers and crime in the generations behind us.

Our generation is loked down on beause of a few individuals, well guess what? No generation is without its flaws and no generation is perfect, but for you guys to completely slam and drag our generation down, that is wrong IMO.

I was born in the 80's XD god that makes me feel old, but I class us as the same generation, and I think you guys need to open your eyes to the positive in our generation and stop just looking at the flaws, we have it drummed into us by the media that we are the worst :/ and that's not right.

No one is perfect but we are far from the screw ups that some posts in this thread would imply.
