Did you know that in 5 billion years, the sun will expand.

While it expands, it will encompass the earth, plus the other inside planets.

-That means, unless we find another planet thats capable of sustaining us, we're screwed.

But, there is a small chance that scientist are wrong.

Your opinions, is this likely to happen?

I don't care about 5 billion years from now. I care about the 80 I'm gonna live.

this is an astronomy question. i think that we can have the techonlogy by then to transport us to another planet.

look, if we live our lives with fear, there really is no point right?

in 40 years or less global warming will kill the Earth.

Instead of fearing for our lives we should live it to the fullest, and also help scientists prove or disprove this. OR help them find a planet.

hmm.. or our sun might implode... causing our earth to steer off orbit. that'd be weird. oh and there's supposedly a galaxy called andromeda which will collide with our galaxy the milky way. yeah that will be pretty dang fun just cause i won't be alive then. i don't even think the human race could survive till then. global warming might worsen, inhancing the chances of skin cancer... cattle might not survive, crops won't grow, drought. yeah everybody will probably die. hahaha just kidding. i really don't know what will happen.

Well if scientific analysis is at all correct, well before the sun dies out after becoming a red giant...life on earth would not be survivable. It is estimated that in 500 to 700 million years from now, the earth's surface will be too hot to support life as it does now. If humans are around that long, I'd assume by then we'd have some snazzy ships and terra-forming capability by then. After all, we've come a long way already in the short time we've existed if you think about it. I don't think it will be the sun that kills off humanity. After all, we have ourselves to do that first if people don't change some things.

Uh. Forty years? I don't think so. The rate of global warming isn't at such a rate right now that the earth is going to die in 40 years.
Sciensists SAY that global warming is the cause of the earth getting hotter, but, in truth, scientists haven't recorded the temperature of the earth from at least 500 years ago.

They can't prove it from 500 years of measuring.

We had an ice age, did we not?

So in order to balance it, the earth's going to get hotter.

    THINK!!!!!!!!

Everything has a beggining, everything has an end.
THe humans will die out, Earth will die out, the solar system wil be destroyed, it all happens, if the human race think jumping from planet to planet they will die more painfuully then when we will die on Earth, just accept the world will end and move on with life, make the best of what you have now.

i dont think humans will exist in 5 billion years. why worry about things that wont happen in our lifetime?

well evryone dies in the end, if we ruin this planet by increasing global warming, i don't think we deserve another chance to ruin a different planet the same way but that my opinion.

i bet something will survice and a different race like the humans will live a normal life.

    I agree with True Darkness.

Well, I simply let this do the talking.

You know how many times they've said that? Oh we're all going to blow up! And how many times it hasn't happened. In 2012 computers are supposed to take over the world and we all die. Anyways, thats the future, right now we're worried about Bees. They've noticws every 3 out of 5 bee's don't return when they leave the hive. The panic is without bee's the world will eventually die.

If the sun does increase and finally kill us, won't that go for the rest of the planets? We're screwed either way, we all die its a natural part of life. Nothing wrong about it.

I don't think it's really a good idea to get caught up in all this "we're all going to die" drama, as it's inevitable.

There's nothing to worry about, either. I'm hoping the world ends after I die, though. (How selfish :)).

Oh come on, us? earth? living for another 5 billion years?
    right, that's incredibly possible /sarcasim

if we don't blow ourselves up, we will polute the earth to much, if that doesn't happen then we will have too many people(not like we don't already have a huge population(don't take that the wrong way please, I was just pointing it out)) and we will all starve, if not then maybe we will run out of fresh water to drink, if not maybe those people ****ing around with cloning and stuff will mess up and make a virus that kills us all. The list goes on....

my point is there is no way we are going to live for 5 billion more years and the sun is the least of our problems, even is we do fix those problems. no species has done it, and I doubt we will be the first. Besides evolution would have some effect after that long.

I honestly don't care either. I'm not going to be here in 5 billion years anyway...and we're screwed much earlier than that anyway.

This is such a rather emo topic. Of course everything has a beginning and an end. Not sure why it matters. When the end comes, it does. We aren't going to be complaining or worrying about it then so why not just live now, do what we can to preserve time for ourselves and our offspring etc, and just be happy?

No, the sun will definitely nova. No doubt. Despite it being small, it's still going to nova.

    Anyway, I already knew this.
