So, while I was on the internet looking to download some games, I came across this one file...I downloaded it, and all the sudden I have this HUGE VIRUS. Like seriously, its almost completely engulfed me system.

Im download Ad-aware 2008 addition right now, but I'm need of serious help.

    Virus "symptoms"

My computer is running extra slow

The virus itself downloaded some kind of antivirus program, thats complete bullshit. It makes up all this random stuff like I've been looking at a billion files of porn, (which I have not) and then it says each file has a virus and that I should use the antivirus program (the REAL virus) to get rid of all the fake viruses its showing me.

Apparently the virus turned into my computer's administrator. Its locked me out of some things, such as downloading a few files and it locked my desktop...my wallpaper turned into a giant yellow and blue sign saying "YOU HAVE SPYWARE, USE ANTIVIRUS TO STOP IT."

I cant access my programs or documents anymore, but all I have is school stuff on there which is unimportant.

It randomly opens internet explorer pop-ups even though my main browser is fire fox, and it has been this way for 8 months.

I've been using McAfee but it absolutely sucks. It tells me I have a potentially unwanted program...then it doesnt do anything about it.

    Help...me...please.

At least you know it's virus :)
You can also try spybot which is free, it will remove nasty bots and stuff.
The best free antivirus right now is AVG, try it.
Avast is one of the best avs, but it is not free.
Well it's simple: you use software like the ones I mentioned (ad-aware you said is good too) and free yourself from the virus.
Also kinda irrelevant, but you should have a firewall too, zonealarm is very good and comes in free and pro versions (in pro included anti-spyware too).PM me if you want cracked versions of the shareware programs above
Let me know if you don't succeed deleting the virus.

    reinstall windows
the whole process of "finding the best virus protector" isn't gonna work. long story short the companies don't give a dam if your computer has a virus and thus all of the are pretty much written the same way. you have to think of how the virus works. there's like 75887376465783477 kabillion ways a virus can attack your computer (depending on how the author makes it) and if the virus isn't covered in the virus protection program (because it may not be a common virus or its as i said and was made by 1 individual hacker) then guess what, its not going away lulz

reinstalling windows is your best option, just save all the files you want/need to a pen drive (or a Ipod)

actually the same exact thing happened to me before i knew about Anti-virus software. i downloaded Mc a Fee virus scan (it was a free trial) and it completely fixed everything, the desktop wall changed back to normal and everything was back the way it was. however, i heard there is no free version of Mc a Fee anymore so if you can't find something suitable, than you'd best reboot your entire computer (meaning reinstalling Windows). or, if you know the date of when this happened, system restore will bring your computer back to the time of the date you tell it to meaning all programs that were installled and downloaded at the time will be back, but everything you did after that date MIGHT be undone.

reinstalling is a waste. Instead use some anti softwares. Specifically Malware. What I use most of the time is Ad-Aware SE Personal, which is free. Very good program, cleans it out quite nicely.

my grandma had a huge virus by a virus protector called xp virus protection and it automaticly added it self and said every file and program she had was a warning to a virus. it sucked and her laptop almost crashed because of it.
