I know I am trying to have a serious thread what the hell?
    But that aside.

For those of you who dont know, I am a girl scout and Im aiming for my Gold Award which is the equivalent of the Eagle Scout award in Boy Scout, at least honor wise. And for my project, I plan on developing and implementing a program for high school students to encourage organ donation in teens.

And as a kind of research I wanted to ask you guys what you think about organ donation, especially the ones of you who are teenagers on here. I know where I live when you get your driving permit, you have to specify if you want to be an organ donor or not right then. So in that moment, what information would you wish you had known, want to know, why you would say yes, why you would say no...etc, etc. Also if your parents are opposed to it, please say why too because I want to develop a program for adults to better understand organ donation too.

    Discuss go go go o:

The thing that made me decide for sure that I would choose to be an organ donor once I'm 18 is that if you're not, they're still going to remove your organs and they'll be liquefied in some factory. I figured that either way, I'm not getting buried with my organs, so why not donate them to save lives?

You should keep in mind when you're doing your project that some religions have things about donating/receiving organs. <3

Most major religions approve or even encourage organ donation, and the ones that dont mostly believe its a personal decision.
    Very few are against it.

I'm just saying, you don't want to go preaching DONATE YOUR ORGANS if someone's religion forbids it. And if I rememberr correctly, most encourage giving organs but discourage receiving them, saying that it "interferes with god's will" or something. I was just saying lol.

Well, when I got my ID at 18 (and my license later at 19) the reason I chose to be a donor is after I've expired, I will have no use for them, and someone else will. My parents were a huge influence on that decision as both of them are organ donors and when I went to get my license they kept stressing that little bit of info.

I had the same situation when it came to a learners license. Basically I came up undecided myself, seeing as giving away my organs to a stranger who may live only a few months longer thanks to my liver seems almost pointless in my eyes.
However once a friend invited me to Donate blood I went with him and pretty much decided I was doing the same thing as donating organs, except I am still alive of course.

SO yes I guess i would donate my organs.

I myself still don't know the required condition to be a donor, but I'm guessing I have to wait until I'm legal. I myself don't mind organ donning, but if it's in a almost extortion case where I would be in a coma, and there would still be chances. Then perhaps donning wouldn't feel right. But otherwise, if I die normally...I would at least give people with a future possibilities so that they can accomplish it.

I believe organ donation is a great thing. Some people are paranoid that they think if they are in a coma that their organs will be harvested but that is not really true. You have to be considered -brain dead- and also relatives usually are part of the process of determining that and giving permission to pull the plug. Doctors can't just do what they want there.

I've been a donor since I have a great friend who would not be alive today were it not for the kindness of someone who did that for him. He needed a kidney desperately and struggled for years on one kidney that was dying, after he had a serious bout of cancer. Now he has a good kidney, thanks to a donor and he's doing much better and enjoying life as he could not before since he was stuck having to be around home often on a machine.

I am not sure why some people feel that when they die they are going to need organs anyway. There are a few religions out there that are against the desecration of the body and demand it be buried and all that jazz, in tact, but many anymore aren't so stringent on it, fortunately. I think the main reason there are not more donors is because people are afraid that there are going to be people with evil grins on their faces ready to pull a plug on you when it doesn't work that way, especially in the U.S. I might believe it transpires more where euthanasia is a legit practice performed often.

I am all for organ donating. Hey, if I'm not using my organs and they are all still in working condition, who am I to step in front of my friend over here, who may just as easily be having kidney failure or something.

My organs can save lives. This is the legacy I'd like to leave for future generations. My parents are also for it.

Hell, I have no problem being an organ donor. It's not like I will have any use for them once I'm gone. Let someone who could use them take them.

Heck yeah I'm going to be an organ donator, I always try to do anything that helps. Though I know younger organs are in demand, I hope I don't die young. I beleve I have much more to offer to this world alive then dead.

    WHY NAAAAWT BE ONE?
    Honestly.

If you die you obviously don't need your organs anyways; all there going to do is rot and decompose away underground with the rest of you. Donating your organs is like the ultimate and last good deed you could do on earth.
In the wake of your own death you could save so many more lives just by becoming an organ donor.

Or you could try and think of it as if a piece/pieces of you are living on after your death.

When you go in to get your permit and/or junior license choose to be an organ donor.

Organ donation is a really good thing.
Once we die our body would be just empty shells so, I think it is better to use the "shell" to do something rather than just let it rot.

I don't see any wrong in it. Infact aren't you helping people by joining the organ donars foundation/whatever it's called? You'd be helping heaps of children and adults all over your country, maybe even internationally. I'd join the cause if I were eighteen. Your organs aren't exactly coming with you when you die, so why be selfish and keep them? Maybe not those who died of disease and organ donating was not recommended to them because of that, but the people who die ever so unfortunately and are as healthy as a horse. It'd be great to join, I would.

Sure, you have those whose religions say no to organ donating, but it is your choice isn't it. Blood-donating is also another thing I really want to do. Since needles don't scare me and I like the lollies they give you afterwards, I'm definately going to be a blood-donater. Especially since I heard the doctors at some hospitals around Australia urgently need my blood type.

Only thing is, I'm not eighteen yet. Just a few years more and I'll be able to do these kind donations ;D

I will definetly sign up for organ donation. There's no real downside to either party. I mean, I'd be dead. As long as St Peter doesn't suddenly go "Well, EVERY bit of you has to be dead before I let you in", then I can't complain.

Of course, there are people who are adverse to being recipients of donated organs, due to stuff like the ever popular rumor that "recipients develop traits of the donor", like I heard some woman suddenly got intense cravings for goat's cheese after a Liver Transplant, and the liver turned out to belong to a Goat Farmer (died in a tractor accident, apparently). I don't beleive this for a second, but... I dunno, it'd be weird having someone else's organ in your body, wouldn't it? Never actually thought about it like that before...

Anyway, I'm completly for organ donation. Besides, if this BS I mentioned above is true, I might be able to possess whoever gets my spleen! That'd be weird... Don't worry, I'm just joking!! I'm not the type to hold a grudge against other people living.

In my opinion, an organ is important to everyone, it makes sure you live, or if you die. I'm pretty sure I won't need them if I'm not living anymore, so I could possibly give up my heart, liver, or lung to someone in need.
My Mother is even signed up for Bone Marrow donation, so they can use her bone marrow if she isn't living anymore.

It might mean I'll be a slightly less efficient zombie, but least I'll be helping people. I'll try signing up for organ donation when I'm older.

i think organ donation is a really wonderful thing; its something that i think should be obligated, actually, and not an option. i understand that families would not want loved ones body parts used after their death, but honestly, helping your fellow man in need is more important than having them rot in the ground... its a great thing that science has advanced enough to show that we are capable of giving to one another on such a level :D
