There's another thread like this on another forum I go to, and we got mixed responses. So I wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

So what's your view on organ donation? Do you support it, or not? I myself have signed a donor card and had the little organ donor logo put on my license so should something happen that kills me, any organs that are needed may be taken. I feel I won't need them anyway, I'm dead, and it's kind of selfish to let them rot along with me after I'm dead when they could be used to save someone's life. My ideal is I die, have them take what they need, then cremate me.

I am mostly for it, in some cases it's wrong but that happens rarely.
I think it's good that people donate their organs, it's not many dead people who actually need their organs. And it can help other people to survive.

I would disagree with compulsory organ donation because some people are very sensitive over the issues on what is right and wrong to do with dead bodies. However, I did sign up as well to donate my organs after death because as you said, I won't be needing them anymore.

IN my country,if you do not want to donate your organs, you have to sign a little form. I think I'm with donating them because people need those organs!I'm sure others want to live a normal life and survive right? And yes,it is selfish to see your heart rot with you.

If you donate your organs, your loved ones can still see you *live* because you live on in the people who have your organs

Wait....so you have to sign a form if you DON'T want them donated? Here you must sign if you DO. Hmm.

One of my pals is going to need a kidney in in the next 5 years... Since his other kidney had something failuring when he was young and now they look for the remaining kidney that if it has something. And he is making it malfunction due to his overeating candy and overdrinking coke... I think that if he does need a new one and my own would be good I might donate mine to him... If it matches with him.... And I will give my organs when I die... Exept that I'm so young that won't be able to sign that....

wow, thats really noble of you

as for me, i've heard that if you get in a car crash, and the ambulance see's you have the dot on your license, they might not try to save you as much if you weren't, since your organs are going to someone. my parents gave me this long lecture about it, and so i do not have the dot.
i really dont know if its true or not.
    someone enlighten me please?
    my parents are quite.....
    uhm.
    controlling.

I'd have to look that one up. Somehow that doesn't sound right to me (considering I was just in a crash myself....).

I want to do that and I think it's very genorous. I have known people who have been dying but got a new organ and have just made it. Things like this make me happy that someone out there has thought about the more needy.

I really believe in organ donation but I agree that it should be voluntary. I carry a donor card and am registered on the NHS donor register. I think that helping someone else live after my death is a wonderful gift. I respect that not everyone wishes to donate organs for a variety of reasons, but I personally believe that it is the right thing to do and will hopefully help to save other lives that might have been lost.

Technically even blood can be seen as donating to save other lives. In the past I have had to have major surgery and I will always be grateful to the people who donated the blood that allowed me to have the operation and survive.

I think Organ Donation should be voluntary, as Ghanarth said before. I think making it mandatory is a little bit...harsh?

I am for organ donation. I mean what are you going to do with those organs after you die? I say if some kid needs your heart after you die, then let him have the heart.

Although I could see where people would be hesitant about doing such a thing. Religious beliefs for example might get in the way of organ donation but I would hope more people who believe in such things would see it as a sacrifice. Giving of yourself to someone in need.

I am not totally sure what happens after death, but i dont feel the need to keep my organs.
my parents ( i am 16) STRONGLY believe its wrong.
and didn't allow me to get the dot on my license.

has anyone heard that an ambulance might not try to save you as much if you have the dot? thats what my parents say...x.x but they suck

What your parents said is just paranoia talking instead of logic. Ambulances go to save people and do not even know all the time who they are helping till they get to a scene. They are not going to treat someone worse who is an organ donor or delay so that person dies.

I think it's a wonderful thing to do.

Just say you had a box of precious choclates in your hand, you wouldn't just throw them Aaway would you, you would use them. Same with organ donors. You wouldn't waste something that could be useful.

    I used a bad example I know.

meh, i find that a good enough example.
if you can't "eat" them, then someone else can.
change eat with use....and it makes sense.
