So what is the song that everyone associates with Ireland and St. Patrick's day?

    Danny Boy.

Yes I know it's a nice song but there is nothing Irish about it.

Danny Boy was written by an English lawyer who not once set foot in Ireland. Never experienced its culture nor its people nor Ireland itself. Not to mention that Danny Boy isn't the most popular song in Ireland.

Most of Ireland's music are either the fiddle laden music you hear in pubs or the ballads by bands such as Celtic Thunder. It also centers on its history and the recent clash between Catholics and Protestants which is still going on.

But there are countless other Irish songs like Caldonia, The Fields of Athenry, Adieu Lovely Nancy, and more than I can name? So why is it this non-Irish song written by an Englishman gets the most attention.

And I'm not even getting into the countless fanfics featuring whiny emo pseudo-Irish characters cutting themselves to Danny Boy because they're whiny emo pseudo-Irish girl/boyfriend <Insert stupid cliche plot device here the day before St. Patricks day.

So please, when you're celebrating St.Patrick's day, listen to music that's Irish?
