Old Rumors About KH2 Hinted at Birth by Sleep?

So this is going back quite a ways (as many as 10 years), but I was recently recalling some of the old rumors I heard about Kingdom Hearts 2 before its release. Back when there was little to no beta-footage of the game. I think I saw it on ansemreport(.com/net?), which has mostly ceased to exist, except for an old forum, which may or may not be related to the original site (http://ansemreport.proboards.com/index.cgi).

Anyway, I remember a rumor about a gameplay mechanic, or special move called "Terra", where you press triangle and would gain control of a Heartless that was attacking you, and use it in battle. I distinctly remember this because it sounded really cool, though I thought it was a weird name for a move that controlled Heartless. This could have been an early stage of the Anti-Form drive ability, but of course I can't help but think of Birth by Sleep, where Terra is a character who struggles with and controls darkness.

It seems like too much of a coincidence to just be fan rumor. So does anyone remember this too, or have any idea where this "rumor" came from? Is it possible this "Terra" (either a move, or a character) was originally going to be a part of KH2, but they decided to use it in Birth by Sleep instead?

 

I'm not 100% sure the move was called Terra: I could have misread it. But that's what I remember, and I probably read it multiple times, since I was so excited about any new information on Kingdom Hearts 2.

It didn't make any sense back then, but now it kind of does. Maybe Terra was floated as a potential party member back then, and you could do a team attack where you take control of Heartless? And then it was misinterpreted or mistranslated as a move name, instead of a character name?

I also remember seeing and being excited about those other moves listed, including Quake, which isn't there for some reason. Odd, it says that the "Terra" move was already in chain of memories, but I'm almost 100% certain that it never was.

It's interesting seeing these rumors/unconfirmed information, though I'm still a little curious how it started.

 

Ah, that's probably it. I rarely to never used that move, so I didn't make the connection. Though I thought it just made enemies too afraid to attack you: not make them turn on each other. It's possible that Terra's name was already thought up at that time, since he was in the secret ending, albeit in full armor, but I'd say you got it.
