Ok KHV. I love love love book. and I am old fashion and I really like having a library full of book. But I also am a tech geek and I love the idea of having my library come with me. Does any of ya'll of a Nook, Nook Color, or a Kindle? if you do...do you like it...hate it? gogogogogogogogo
Kindle. Except it's name makes little sense. I've tried kindling a fire with it. It is not recommended.
Neither, but I have an iPad which has an app for both. It's nice being able to take your whole library with you, so if you want one for portability/convenience go for it. Bonus points if the screens are backlit so you can read in the dark (I think they didn't used to be but have since added that feature? Not sure). If you're a big fan of a certain series or author, of course, you can still buy physical books for display on your bookshelf instead if you want. Afaik there are a lot of different models and really, if you just want to read books and not much else with it you can get the basic model pretty cheap I think.
The iPad screen just isn't the same, or so I have heard from a friend. I don't have one but I'll get his input on it and get back to you.
As an English degree holder I was extremely skeptical about E-Readers. I felt as if it would destroy the beauty of paper books. I mean come on, nothing beats the smell of pages from a new book. However, my hubster bought me a Kindle for Christmas and I. Love. It. You can look up stuff on the Internet, free 3G wifi from anywhere, looks like actual pages from a book, no glare from lights, download books instantly, and books are less expensive for the Kindle. It's awesome and I most deff recommend it. =]] Plus you can write notes about what you think about what you're reading and put bookmarks in more than one place as well as highlight stuff. It's awesome.
Update. If you have any interest in a general tablet, my friend suggests the Nook color over an iPad because it is a very flexible system (not sure about specs, but it has a large homebrew base). However, if you take the color version you lose the e-ink screen which is what makes the black and white ones so great to look at. Either way, he recommends the Nook instead just because it's a more open platform and is not directly Amazon related. I don't know if the Kindle uses e-ink either, but he loves his Nook because of it.
my mom and i looked at the Nook, Nook Color, and the Kindle for me and the Nook Color is the best. The Kindle is just a piece of crap to say the least. from what my mom and i look at the Nook Color is the best cause the books you buy for it is cheaper then books you get at the store. also from what we saw you get some of the books earlier on the Nook and Nook Color then getting it at the store. also my sister just a week or two ago went to check out the Kindle for herself and the worker at the store said that many people are returning there Kindle's cause they break and dont work right. hope this helps!
Ah, but the Kindle has one advantage. Free Wikipedia browsing anywhere due to contracts that Amazon has made with various 3G providers. You have an infinite amount of information anywhere you go. It's like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for real.
