What do all of you think of all this? I don't really have much of an opinion, but I am kind of surprised to find that Sony seems to have done the "no glasses 3D" thing first.

I believe it's less that they did it first (I don't believe that Sony has released anything with glasses free 3D as of now, odd considering their support of 3D TV and gaming) and more that a person who happens to have worked for Sony filed a patent for similar technology first. It's misleading for the article to outright say that Nintendo stole Sony's idea as not only is the patent held by one person and not Sony themselves, the tech itself works differently (and then people wonder why there is so much trouble with ethics in games journalism). It's probably just coincidence that the patent holder happened to have worked for Sony.

From what I got out of the article, he developed it for Sony, got a patent in his name on it, and then left (for probably unrelated reasons) when Sony didn't use his idea.

Yeah.. remembering that there are other technologies to see "3D" (we always see 3D) whithout glasses, some tvs are doing now.. but the problem is that nintendo stole his way that is diferent than others.
As for Sony, they did a few years ago something much more promissing that i never heard again "The Playstation TV" that had 2 glasses and each player saw diferent things when looking on the screen it would be awesome to play player X player games.

Yeah, the fact that the article jumps to accusing Nintendo of stealing from Sony throws the entire article's credibility into question. I'd take anything you can get from it with a grain of salt.

Might have been sued but its not really going to hurt them, not with the billions they have. I find it stupid really. They did just take the idea and tweak it to their liking. It isn't the original anymore.
