Awaiting Feedback Nickname Field on Profile/Posts

I'm trying to think of ways to help identify people who change names frequently. Working under the assumption that the username history field will remain as it is (which is probably for the best, especially for people like me who've been b& before and had to restart), I thought of this idea. Basically a field where you list what people typically call you or what you'd like to be called.

The way this would differ from username history is that the latter serves purely informative purposes, while the former can also be a convenience for the user, thus there is a different incentive to use it—not necessarily a better incentive, but one that may appeal to more people and thus see more widespread use.

 

This gets a plus one from me.

Well yeah, but then why can Prems change them so often?

 

Because they want to. I don't care that much, just saying that if you change your username a lot, you should know that it may confuse people. We have the past username field already, I wouldn't mind just expanding that to nicknames as well.

Yeah, but that's not really the case with the majority of people...
This mostly helps not who changes their name, but those who interact with them (though it would be helpful for those who change names often to be able to freely change their names without being forgotten or confused for someone else).
Besides, if the main reason for Prem Username Changes was to change to whatever we want to be called to permanently, it's not really a perk for Premiums. And it's not really about what people want to be called so much as what people are called. The majority of people here still refer to me as "LilBueno" or "Bueno" despite the fact that I haven't had that username since I became Prem...three years ago or so? I don't mind being called that and that's honestly who I consider my online personality to be; I just think "Boy Wonder" better fits the superhero theme I stay with better.

 

I was actually thinking about asking for a nickname field for the RP section. I've seen it done on other forums and it would be kind of cool for users to change their names in a single section, not to mention regs could change their name as well.

While it doesn't show to anyone but you, I recently made a script that adds a nickname field to members of your choice for this purpose.

Feel free to use it until staff come to a decision.

 

Using this script and it works really well. I've been going around giving everyone nicknames (usually what I know them by unless they're non-premium). Also, just gave myself a nickname lol. Recommend this for anyone who wants a nickname field.

 

I hadn't noticed that you were able to nickname yourself. That's pretty cool. It's like a secondary user title for your profile fields ... though the only person who can see it is yourself. It's still something fun ^^
