Nintendo New Sonic game, Sonic Boom, Announced

Christ, those new designs are terrible. Sonic: Lost Worlds was such an overwhelming success they decided to reinvent the series, I guess. But we all remember how the REBORN SONIC FRANCHISE!!! went back in '06.
To be fair, though, exploration based Sonic gameplay will be sick if they pull it off. I can only hope the toys aren't as expensive as all hell.

 

I actually kind of like the designs, Knuckles is the weirdest though. Something about bandages make them all scrappy. Obviously it's a co-op since there are four characters, which is the holy number for cooperative game play.

 

Uh, can't see the trailer with the link you provided. It's all in French but I think I was just redirected to the main page.

But anyway, saw the teaser on Youtube and it looks interesting to say the least. The character designs are definitely something to get used to ('specially Knuckles the hulk lol), but I guess it does fit a little better for the adventure format they seem to be developing. Quite intrigued to see how this turns out.

 

Sonic's design I actually like quite a bit, Tails' is alright and Knuckles is hilariously bad

...BUT KNUCKLES DESIGN, OH MY GOD. The others are pretty good, but Knuckles'...torso, I guess? wtf.

 

Makes sense, but...he looks like someone made a bad cosplay costume at home and then the costume was placed into the game. The head doesn't match the rest of his body

Well they're not headed up by new people to the industry, the CEO is ex Naughty Dog, who worked on all the Jak games from 1 - X as well as a lot of Crash Bandicoots. Maybe that's what you read somewhere?

You know, I don't know what to say about these new designs really. They basically covered everyone's hands and shoes with bandages really and I don't know, they tried to go at a more humanoid approach with sonic's design rather than leaving the characters in their traditional height and design. But the gameplay itself doesn't look like something I can bash on without feeling like I'm not even giving it a chance, It looks okay but alas I've been waiting more for another Sonic PS3 game, the last one that released was Generations I believe.

 

so many question:

• are the designs permanent? knuckles looks are okay but the rest look weird.
• is this a 4 player game?
• is eggman behind all this?

I'm in favor of the design changes. The Sonic games of the past decade or so have all ranged from "ok" to "terrible," so I don't really understand how people can be against having some actual redesign happen, in both appearance and gameplay. Knuckles no longer looks like essentially a red Sonic with pointy hands, Tails's gameplay isn't simply "Sonic + flying," and Amy is actually being utilized as a playable character.

For once, I'm mildly interesting in a new Sonic game, and that says something when the last one I did have hopes for was Sonic Heroes, which came out in 2004.

 

Designs are likely permanent at this stage, post concept.
Yes, it's single player and local co op, no online.
No clue, but the robot enemies are a good indication.

 

As an aside, I keep hoping against all odds that they will release a game set in the Archie universe. The comics were of varying quality, but they were the first I ever delved into and so they left somewhat of an impression. I wanted this a lot eight years ago.

Oh, and Knuckles looks positively dreadful. Sonic, Amy and Tails however I am pleased with. But why are Sonic's arms blue?

 

Maybe they wanted him to have grown up a bit more, obviously he started growing fur on his arms. or maybe it's just a character design error that they decided to just keep in place who knows.

I never even noticed the first time I watched I was more focused on the fact Sonic Knuckles and tails are covered in bandages.

I'm quite pleased with all of the new designs, though Knuckles looks like he went a little overboard with steroids.

As for the game, I'm very excited for it, because from what I've seen it looks more open and explorable than past Sonic titles. What I'm most interested in seeing, though, is how Amy is portrayed in this game, as her new design seem to give off a much different vibe than her old one did. She seems less like a...I don't want to say "damsel in distress" because she doesn't quite fit that title (she could handle herself much better than someone like Princess Peach), but she seems more capable now. Like she could take on a horde of enemies by herself. That's just how it comes across to me, anyway.

If this were to happen I would buy that game in a heartbeat. No questions asked.
