Spoiler He single-handedly turned the entirety of the human race (save one red-headed comatose person) into a giant sea of orange liquid. Yes, he's all alone. And yes, it is f**ked up. :3 Fans were displeased by the mind-rape final episodes of the season and demanded an ending, so they got End of Evangelion, the animated movie with the hugest anticlimax I've seen yet for animated movies. Spoiler Because Gendo wins. >/ But yeah, they're making 4 movies on it revealing new characters and an entirely different ending.

Very true, and I believed I worded it wrong. Spoiler I meant it's Shinji's fault that humanity was turned into LCL. He made the decision, Lilith carried it out. (Atleast I'm pretty sure) Or a good portion of it's his fault. A good few people were also involved.

Make anime with religious overtones Add confusing philosiphy and morality to make viewers confused and question themselves Leave a very open ended unexplainable ending Promise movie MAKE BILLIONS! Evangelion HAS no explanation, there doing this so that you have no choice but to watch the rest HOPING for an explanation. I call it the EVA complex, Elfen lied tried it but failed.
Yeah... don't even bother with the lolGainax endings. Just enjoy the rest of the show and try not to think too much about it.
This is true. But seriously... Spoiler The End of Evangelion was such a mess... I thought Asuka finally saw the light....it turns out she just got even more messed up xD. Asuka wasn't comatose at the end, she just had her arm bandaged. I found it crazy that shinji saw Rei at the end, though. Either way. The remake(Atleast the first part) Seems pretty organized & They are introducing more Eva's, and the action seems much better. In which case...The first battle isn't shown in flashback...it's shown completely in the moment.
