I've seen a member that hasn't been on for five years and hasn't even posted a single post. I think he just wanted to reserve the name so nobody could get it, LOL. I would normally wait until I had 300 posts to ask this question, but I'm impatient, so yeah. Is there ANY way I can get Neku Sakuraba's name after I get 300 posts? :p Note the lack of _.

Sadly, no. I tried the same excuse once with the name "Cat" but it doesn't work like that. Even if the member hasn't posted once, you can't take the name.

There used to be the exception that if the member had been banned for a year you could take their name, but I think that isn't valid anymore. Still, there is the rule that if a member hasn't used the name in a year you can take it (like if I were to change my name to "Gato" and I didn't go back to "Cat~" for a whole year, it'd be up for grabs).

I know it sucks, but that's how it works. Some people come back, so as a precaution the rule is in place.

I've never met someone who's done that, let alone on this forum. *sigh* Oh well. Stupid _.

EDIT: LOL, every type of Neku is taken by a Moogle Assistant except for me. WHY CRUEL WORD?! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!

When you reach 300 posts, you could replace one of your letters with a special letter character.

Actually, I know quite a few people who've done this, one of them being myself. The rule may seem stupid to an active member, but it does save a sh*tload of trouble for people who want to take a nostalgia trip.

To be fair, this is a great alternative.

    Oh well. :p

Neku $akuraba. That just looks wrong, LOL.

EDIT: Figured out a solution: "Neκu Sakuraba" :D It even looks cool!

Then use a special letter that doesn't look too different from a regular letter.

That's not what he meant. You can just go into the Special Character menu (Google how to get to it) and pick out an acryllic "r" or "u." It's a great way to cheat the system.

Yeah, I personally am not for changing it. I would hate for someone to get locked out of their account if they returned from a long hiatus; it's not fair to them.

But using special characters should be a-okay.

Sadly the names cannot be changed at the moment when an identical name already exists!

However, consider it a test of your creativity and your um, research on Unicode. As was stated before (and you have already seen by now), you can uncover alternative characters to fit into your name and make it more appropriate. Make it, dare I say, even lovelier looking than it would otherwise be with normal bag-end Latin alphabet characters.

Yeah, as others have said, the rule isn't changing. People register and don't use the account for a while, we don't want to prevent them from returning. It's pretty easy to find a character to replace a letter or two if you're really set on a name, and now that you can login using your email, it's not even a pain to deal with.
