Lack of common sense. That is what is wrong with children these days.

Well, if this is the first time it's happened, that seems to be going a bit overboard. I would just go with suspension / expulsion.

    How old is she?

Most schools have a zero tolerance policy for things of this nature.

She'll be turning sixteen in a few weeks. It's silly because she's turning out to be exactly like someone she doesn't want to be.

Beside the fact that she brought it to school, being 16 years old and drinking alcohol isn't that big of a deal. Quite common in Norway, at least.

One of my friends last year was smoking tobacco (I think) and just got suspension / expulsion.

Oh, by the way, common sense isn't solely the children's fault. Common sense is taught by parents.

Which is why we all need to learn so our children don't durn into total derps.

You do realize that suspension and expulsion mean two different things, right?

I asked my Systems teacher a while ago, and he said they're basically the same thing.

Not quite, actually. Suspension is a period of time in which the student is removed from school; expulsion is permanent.

Suspension - Student either sits in a room or at home. Fails any and all tests/assignments/projects during that period. [My high school used to have an Out-of-School Suspension that they did away with because it was illogical to allow the student to be at home. An In School Suspension usually involved for sitting in one room all day that was essentially the size of a closet.]

Expulsion - Student is permanently expelled from the school and may not re-register again. I'm not sure if you aren't able to re-register with the same school but I do know is that it is not something to take lightly.

You usually have to do something incredibly stupid to be expelled.

That's odd, because one of my freshman friends got an emergency expulsion for accidentally (really) bringing a pocket knife to school, and he was back in about a week.

Are you sure they didn't actually suspend him, or maybe expel him initially but then allow him to return when they found out it was accidental?

Expulsion always refers to a permanent removal from the school, as far as I know.
