Not sure if I should post this here or in the Spamzone, but whatever. Anyhow, so I'm kind of a rocker dude right? So I have my hair grown out to about my shoulders. Basically, imagine a lion's mane, and that's sorta what my hair looks like. So I've been told several different things: My girlfriend tells me to get it cut, my best friend tells me to grow it out more, my brother tells me to get the sides flipped up, my dad wants me to get a mullet, and my mom wants me to make my hair look all emo, or as she put it: Like the guy in Fallout Boy. I just don't really care much, but I kind of like having it this way.

If you like it how it is now, then leave it like that. It's your hair and only you have the say in what happens to it.

Unless of course it was your school (as mine has forced me to several times) or your work then you would have to do what they say.

If it's just the opinions of others then you can take them on board and consider them but there is nothing to say that you have to follow through on any of them.

I let my hair grow as long as it can, I haven't had it cut in months, and I don't style it. It's pretty fun to have, and my head stays really warm in winter (lol), but I am considering getting it cut. It tends to get caught in the zipper of my coat, unless I stuff it all in the back of my hood, and it falls all over the place. If you can make long hair work for you, then, by all means, go for it! Don't let anyone tell you how you should look! That's an issue between you and your body.

.............unless you will be suspended from school or fired from work. Your future is more important than your current hair style.

    Hair is fair.

I'd go with what your girlfriend wants. And maybe you could do something creative with it to let everyone else know you still considered their options. lol

Your mom wanted an emo-cut. xD omg

Any decent employer won't discriminate against you because of hairstyle. And I have never been in a school that had hair rules (aside from not hiding dangerous items in your hair :D)

Boys hair is not allowed to touch the collar at our school, be of an extreme style, be a number one cut etc.

If your job involves interacting with the public a lot then they will probably have it as part of their uniform policy. You are representing them to the public after all. There could also be health and safety issues.

Ok, the job example, I might be able to see. And the military. But your school administrators are insane. That is a deliberate limitation of freedom of expression, which is basically the same thing as freedom of speech, in a nonverbal form. This has precedent in several US Supreme Court cases, but I don't remember which ones. I do remember that Vietnam War protesters were allowed to wear their anti-war paraphernalia because of the ruling. The same precedent might apply to hair.

Our school went to the High Court to see if their rules were legal and within the constraints of human rights. They won the court case (although they did back off for a while). The point is, if you choose to go to a school or work in a job, you have to abide by their rules.

Well, regardless, I think it's better for kids to have as much independence as possible without interfering with their schoolwork.

Wow, we're kind of off topic here, aren't we? :D

I have had long hair and short hair off and on. The only times I changed it to short was for the military or for some things at school now and then, or for certain jobs. Otherwise I could do what I want. Currently I have it long with red stripes in it because my hair is black. Work also doesn't care if I have long hair so long as I tie it back and it's not in my eyes.

It's just one of those things to put up with. I also have facial piercings so I've learned to get work that doesn't mind it, or I have to take them out while working and cut the hair.

lol this thread is awesome XD umm... i think you should leave it however youd like it because it is YOUR hair... all the people telling you to change it should respect your decision with what you want to do with part of your body.

I think you should cut your hair short. and start living in the real world with a real mans hair cut, let go of the "rocker" dream and start living a real life. Like a respectable man would.
