I am currently assembling a crack team of misfits, experts, madmen, and electricians to find, track down, ferret out, apprehend, and kill these bastards. Who's with me?

    But seriously, this actually happened.

Post in this thread for shits and giggles about how we're going to destroy the chumps who did this.

PM me if you think you can do something to help for realzies.

Can' t her bank and the police help her ? Shouldn' t be that hard to track down the transactions and I assume you can' t open an account without giving some sort of credential ? Unless she sent cash.
    ...
Or unless you' re the scammer. XD
Just joking. If needed I' m pretty sure I can bore people to death.

Did you click the link to the article? She wired it to them. Basically, a man who sounds a lot like my cousin, Jimmy, called her claiming he was injured and in jail. Then he asked her to wire him for bail, medical stuff, and other things. She obliged and now all she has to show for it is a few empty bank accounts and a significant amount of debt.

I did, but I misunderstood the term. Took it as wired in the broad sense, didn' t know it was a type of financial transaction. The quick google search I made was foggy on the details, but from what you said I gather that the recepient cannot be tracked. I' m sorry to hear that.

This is terrible and the people on that article posting comments like "If she was stupid enough to fall for this then she doesn't deserve her money" are idiots- it's a scam based on the fact we will do all we can to help the ones we love.

And I guess the phone call can't be tracked?

No, they called her home phone, which doesn't have caller ID because we usually call her cell unless we can't get a hold of her or there's an emergency. So unless we can figure out who knows her number who also knows about Jimmy and sounds just like him, they're almost definitely not going to be caught unless they screw up on a future scam. We've made about ~$700 via internet fundraising in the past week, though, so she may very well be able to get some of her money back, even if it's not all of it.
