Do any of you get deep into music genres to the point where you get a little annoyed when somebody calls a song one genre when you know it's obviously something entirely different and you try to explain it to them but they just don't get it or don't care? For example, I had a friend call the band Dr. Acula a screamo band and I'm like "They're more grindcore really" and he was like "They scream in their songs so they're obviously screamo" then I said "It's not only the screams, it's the instruments you have to pay attention to also.
To be honest, it doesn't really bother me, but then I don't actually pay that much attention to genres. If I like music it is because it sounds good to me, not because of what genre it is. What pisses me off more is when people get really up themselves over it, and act like they know everything, when they don't.
I do it most of the time, but I try to do it in a nice way. I hate *******s who get so butthurt if someone categorizes a band incorrectly. (I'm talking to you, Last.fm)
I pay attention to genres but I'm not completely in the know yet so I can't really get butthurt over something like that. I haven't gotten too "deep" in any music genre just yet, I think.
I don't get annoyed that much. Let others think whatever, I don't wanna waste my breath trying to explain.
Sometimes. I will get incredibly irritated when some of my friends categorize pendulum's new sound(In Silico-Era) drum n bass, when the only thing keeping it into the drum n bass genre and not purely into cheesy pop is the signature tempo. But apart from that, not really. I mean if I was to hear one of my friends casually say that Bullet For My Valentine is Death Metal(Which has happened), I'd simply laugh profusely and disregard it. But then again I've pretty much had it in for pendulum ever since they released that god-awful granite song. >:
Honestly I stopped giving a **** about genres when I started listening to dudes who cannot possibly fit into one genre and discovered that it's better than being confined to a single genre. Unless someone confuses real or underground hip-hop with mainstream and starts the whole generalization thing. Then I'll go ape ****.
This. You can't limit yourself to one type of music. Some diversity is necessary. But no, I don't get angry about things like that. It's not that big a deal.
