On the moods thing, I really don't think it's a necessary feature. We had a similar one a few years back but no one really used it or took it seriously. Besides, we have a status update feature now, so you can always use that if you really feel the need to share what sort of mood you're in.

As for the anonymous mod... no. I mean, maybe if we had a specific need for it, but just for any old person to use, nope. This isn't 4chan.

I can see people abusing the post anonymously mod. Having witnessed the effects of what that ability can do elsewhere, I'd rather it not be implemented. And I'm surprised it was even suggested in the first place.

The mask of the anon would just increase bullying. Seriously, if you remove the responsibility your words have on another, people turn into real jackasses. Heck, even without seeing the other person who is making the post, that in itself turns people into jackasses. There's no interpersonal communication on the internet. You can't see body language and all that. You can't hear vocal inflections unless you're using a webcam or over skypechat. Having the anon feature just cranks all this up to eleven.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist who is too used at seeing the bad side of people and knows full well what they're capable of but...no.

When I was thinking about the anon mod, I was specifically thinking about the Help with Life section. What if someone wants to confess some secrets without people knowing who they are? I mean, I can see where you're coming from, but I think anon helps with that section specifically.

Well, if there's a way to make it forum-specific, I don't see why not.

But it can go in the opposite direction as well. If anon posting is enabled in the Help with Life section it can still be a terrible idea.

For instance, if someone on anon says that lately they have been feeling depressed and have considered killing themselves. Then a multitude of anon posts replying essentially with 'Well then if you're that pathetic do it' isn't going to be helpful to the original poster. Granted this is a worst case scenario of course.

Maybe if there would be some way for staff to see who was posting[IP logs?] but to everyone else they just look like a question mark. So then if someone is abusing the feature, then they could be dealt with accordingly. But, I still say no.

    ....

Do you REALLY think this forum is going to react like that?

    Yes.
    Yes I do.
Because I've witnessed more than you have from this community and a lot of it was not pleasant.

I don't mind the moods, actually. Whether they were used a lot or not, they wouldn't be hurting anyone. I'm fine with it either way, implemented or not.

Anon = no, for the reasons stated. If you're referring to Help With Life specifically then there are alternatives to being able to talk about things without anyone knowing who you are, which are actually being worked on as we speak, so the mod is unnecessary.
