http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122542-Miyamoto-Prepares-Nintendo-For-His-Retirement This guy is responsible for some of the biggest names in video games... ever. And he's working his way to a retirement. Tis a shame But Maybe now we can get Paper Mario games with actual plot now.
Why does everyone assume he's the one who's responsible for Paper Mario? HE ISN'T. Seriously. Get stories straight before saying that stuff. Nintendo's name is only there because of the IPs >_> Back on topic, it's a shame he's retiring. Part of me is afraid of what Zelda will become... Unless Capcom gets hired to help. They had it right with Minish Cap. But it's Capcom and they ain't doing so well... Eeh.. Either way, he'll be missed. He crafted my childhood with his games ;_;
To be honest, I'm excited. Miyamoto was a great game designer, but he has a weird vendetta against story, if he doesn't have influence, we might end up getting a truly new and unique Zelda. Same goes for Mario. Things have gotten ridiculously samey with those franchises. Also, hooray, another Minish Cap lover :3
About time they get some new blood, creativity was what lead to their great franchises like Mario, Zelda and Metroid, but that creativity has certainly diminished over the years. Good on Miyamoto for laying low.
As much as I love the guy's work, I cannot lie and say it has all been great these last few years. The Zelda has remained in top form, yes, but everything else has just been dying. It will be good to have someone new, young, and creative in the business. I just hope they can dig themselves back up with all the recent things going on.
It is a shame to see the man retire, but with Miyamoto leaving, Nintendo might make bigger changes to already existing franchises. and may dramatically change the way these games are played, so let us hope for something interesting. Actually, you will be pleased to know that Eiji Aonuma, has been mostly in charge of Zelda since The Wind Waker where he was director, and since then he has been the lead producer. But having Capcom back to making games would be pretty swell, considering The Minish's Cap's greatness, they also made Four Swords. I think that GREEZO might get involved, GREEZO made Four Swords anniversary edition, and Ocarina Of Time 3D.
Least it was better than friggin' Twilight Princess... I mean, seriously... the way they added Ganondorf in halfway was totally uncalled for, story was fine with Zant being the big baddie. Oh? Well then this is good news. In all honesty, Capcom should just stick to Zelda for a while :/ most of what they have out nowadays ain't so hot.
Capcom hasn't been terrible, they made a game to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Mega man and Street Fighter for Windows and Mac, entitled "Mega Man X Street Fighter" back in '12, and good positive reviews. Capcom is in charge of the Monster Hunter series, a game that has gained a large dedicated fan base, and has grown in popularity. Capcom owns a third party company named Platinum Games, who made Bayonetta, Platinum Games is a company that was made after Clover Studio went bankrupt, and has the entire staff of Clover Studio, they were responsible for Okami. Capcom is not in it's Mega Man golden age during the NES ans SNES era, but they aren't as bad as what people tend to say.
That started out as a fan game that they picked up and used as their own thing. Yes, I do acknowledge the other things you listed (which do indeed show they aren't as bad as I though), but the fact that fans have to start something to commemorate Capcom's two most-beloved IP's is really ridiculous.
I totally agree there, I have no idea what Capcom were thinking when they decided to stop making Megaman games, and then they tease the fans with a game, and we never hear of it again, "Rockman universe" anyone? Do you remember the "plans" Capcom had? I do agree that Capcom has bullshit interest for it's IPs, but people often overshadow that with other things.
