Alright I'll be using this thread to post my video recordings as they come. These are currently using Xvid and X264 codecs. If you can't play these files then you can get the codec HERE for Xvid or HERE for X264 I've recorded this off of the PCSX2 emulator, which is largely reliable but does include several glitches. Because of this what you see is actually the splicing of different videos where between them we should have minimal bugs. This does result in some changes in quality though. If you see anything that needs fixing, is missing, or have any ideas to make the recording better please let me know. Just keep in mind that my budget for this is zero currently, so it has to be freeware. I hope to get a steady enough income soon to allow me to share the files with minimal compression (I can't find a reliable hosting site to do it for free). For the time being you will have to deal with the 200MB copies. I will be keeping the good copies on file until then. ~~~~~~~ Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix Intro + Roxas Day 1 (Xvid) Roxas Day 2 (Xvid) Roxas Day 3 (Xvid*) (X264) Roxas Day 4 (Xvid*) (X264) Roxas Day 5 (Xvid) (X264) Roxas Day 6 (Xvid) (X264) *Encoding Error (1/2 frame rate) on agenda to fix FMVs Menu Trailer (Xvid) Opening (Xvid) Day 2 memories (Xvid) Day 3 Memories (Xvid) Day 4 Memories (Xvid) Day 6 Memories (Xvid) Not Really Ansem (Xvid) Heartless Charge A (Xvid) Heartless Charge B (Xvid) Ending (Xvid) Secret Ending 1 (Xvid) Secret Ending 2 (Xvid)
The recording comes out as an AVI which is conveniently ideal for compatibility and editing. I can easily repackage them into other formats, but the streams will be exactly what you see here. On a completely different note, I've tweaked the Roxas Day 1 video to have improved rendering in the Sandlot.
Just dropping in a suggestion but if possible, I think you should try uploading videos in other formats. With the right compression, you could have video files that are smaller in filesize and still maintain the same quality. The only problem would be compatibility but I've been writing up a guide on how to convert them into an editable format while still maintaining the quality. Do you record lossless and then compress in a separate program or does the recording program that you use already do the compressing and in the end, you just get an AVI encoded with Xvid/other? Nonetheless, the videos are good atm and the quality is much better compared to the older ones that we have in the archives.
I record uncompressed; merge the audio and video together with minimum compression (since they get recorded to separate files); then compress with a bitrate calculated to put me just a bit under Media Fire's 200MB limit. Video structure 101: The video that you see and audio that you hear are in the form of what is called streams. These streams can be encoded with a multitude of different codecs depending on your needs. In order to use the streams however they need to be bundled together in a wrapper (the file format). For the most part, saying that a file format makes the video itself better is like saying cookies taste better from a specific jar. Now the different formats have different rules on what can be placed in them and how they can be used, so I recognize that AVI is not a one size fits all. If you want to recommend a codec that requires a different extension, or have another reason for the new format, I'm fine with it and will at least look into it. But I don't see the point of having a new format just in general.
Right, I forgot to mention in the other thread. I've got the mpeg-4 x264, and it can be applied to AVI as well, but it was causing errors in encoding. I'll experiment with it a bit more and see if I can't get it working though.
Oops, my apologies for being unclear. I already know that different file formats don't make the video better. But I do know that AVI doesn't support certain codecs that MKV and MP4 can such as H264. That's why I said "With the right compression, you could have video files that are smaller in filesize and still maintain the same quality". As for the codec, I suggest checking out H264 or X264. For most of the anime that I download, this seems to be the best codec. For example, a 24 minute 480p episode of an anime usually has a filesize of about 150MBs. Now KH might be different since it's a completely different media but I still suggest giving it a go.
x264/h264 is not very compatible with AVI, that's why it's causing problems I believe. That's why we insist in mkv/mp4 :p No pressure though, it's your job.
Re-reading that it sounded far more edgy than I intended. I mostly wanted to make sure you and anyone reading the thread was clear on that concept. I don't want to get swamped by people that don't even know what they are requesting. lol I think I might have it working actually. Unfortunately my computer is running slow right now it will take a little while for the results to come in. EDIT: Roxas Day 3 is now available in both Xvid and H264. What do you think?
Firstly, thanks for uploading these, and 8eing so receptive towards suggestions and criticisms. May I recommend investig8ing other hosting sites, such as Dropbox or Megaupload if Mediafire is proving too constricting? Here's a fairly detailed list of sites that you may like to have a 8rief look at. Most have their downsides, so it may 8e to your liking to mirror the files to multiple sites. That'd also save the downloader the trou8le of download limits, and avoid the pro8lem of files 8eing deleted/corrupted.
The avi compressed with H264 is working far better than I expected and it's working stably in both my media player and Vegas, albeit it works slowly in the latter but my computer isn't the best so I assume it will work much faster for people who have much more RAM. I might go with the process of converting it with a lossless codec though just because it works faster for me. Also why is the avi that was encoded with Xvid only 37 second unlike the other which is around 11 minutes?
I'll look into that, I was considering File Dropper but it was proving to be too unreliable with larger files. Media Fire has the significant advantage that it won't delete your files before warning you three times in emails. H264 uses an advanced algorithm for the compression making it very efficient but also processor heavy. The short Xvid must of just been an issue with the upload, I haven't been checking that when I probably should be. I'll get that fixed shortly. Sorry for the delay on Roxas day 4. I am looking into mirroring the h264 into MP4 as well since getting H264 into an AVI requires a bit of a hack to it. EDIT: I fixed an audio synch issue in Roxas day 1 that I'm amazed no one caught. I seem to have lost the Roxas Day 3 videos so I'll need to re-record that since it isn't fair to just take that from the H264 file. I've got extractions for the FMVs that I'll upload shortly. EDIT2: Alright, I've got the mp4 encoding working thanks to a bit of help from Guardian_Soul (or I guess that is turntechGodhead now). Roxas Day 3 is fixed and Roxas Day 4 is up. I've made a few tweaks to the recording process since I keep finding new errors related to the upscaling. They do seem to settle down quite a bit once we get out of Twilight Town though. And I haven't forgotten about X264 on Day 1 and 2, I'll get those in once I've finished Day 6.
